We recently connected with Andres Lerma and have shared our conversation below.
Andres , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I made Quetzy the first character because I wanted to tell a story about a quetzal who lived in Guatemala. When I travel to Guatemala, I visited Baja Verapaz that where I saw a real quetzal bird for the first time and I fell in love with the quetzals. I brought the idea back home and inspired me to developed a short film.
Quetzy is my meaningful project because the quetzals brings goodness in light.

Andres , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Andres Lerma and I’m an animator and artist. I live in Los Angeles, California and I wanted to be an animator because I want to make short films. I want to design my own characters and backgrounds. My teacher Tawd Dorenfeld from Tink Tank Animate teaches me how to animate characters and perform the voice acting, especially editing the sound effects on Audition. What sets me apart from others is that I’m autistic. It can be challenging; however, my mentor helps me overcome it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding of being an animator is that I can make people laugh with my short films. I chose animation because I want to be more creative that I have a great imagination.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Having autism hasn’t stop me from creating my personal animated projects. I have a great imagination and I look forward to the future to make my dreams in projects better.
