We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrei Tone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrei below.
Alright, Andrei thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Tone Films started with a simple frustration: I kept meeting incredible business owners with powerful stories, and those stories were being told in flat, forgettable video that didn’t do them justice. I’m originally from Romania, and storytelling has always been how I make sense of the world. The first time I picked up a camera, it clicked. This was the tool I’d been looking for to help people feel something, not just watch something.
When we looked at expanding to Austin, the logic was obvious. Austin is one of the fastest-growing, most creative business cities in the country, full of founders, tech companies, musicians, restaurants, and nonprofits who all have stories worth telling. Yet a lot of them were settling for content that didn’t match their ambition. There was a clear gap for an Austin video production company that treated video as strategy and storytelling, not just decoration. That was the problem we set out to solve.
What got me most excited was never the gear or the polish. It was the chance to sit across from a founder, understand what they actually care about, and translate that into something cinematic and true. Most companies start with “what do you want to shoot?” We start with “what do you want people to feel and do?” That difference is the whole reason Tone Films exists, and bringing that approach to Austin felt less like a risk and more like answering a need the city already had.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Tone Films is a full-service Austin video production company that helps brands tell stories that actually move people. I’m Andrei Tone, the founder. I got into this work because I’ve always believed that the best businesses have a story worth telling, and most of them never get the chance to tell it well. I started with a camera, a clear vision, and a lot of grit, and built Tone Films into a team that now serves clients across Austin, Dallas, and cities nationwide.
We specialize in commercial production, branded content, brand films, social media content, and documentary-style storytelling. Whether it’s a 30-second commercial, a recruitment campaign, a founder’s story, or an ongoing content partnership, we approach every project the same way: we start by understanding your goals, your audience, and what makes you different, then build the production around that. Great video isn’t about having the most expensive camera in the room. It’s about strategy, clarity, and emotion. That’s what turns a video into real ROI instead of just another file that sits on a hard drive.
What sets us apart as an Austin video production company is that we care as much about the people and the message as we do about the visuals. We don’t just press record. We collaborate, we listen, and we push for exceptional on every single frame. That’s a big part of why we’ve earned hundreds of five-star reviews and the trust of everyone from small local businesses to national brands.
What I’m most proud of is the relationships and the consistency. Clients come back, refer their friends, and tell us we helped them see their own story clearly. If there’s one thing I want potential clients in Austin to know, it’s this: your story deserves to be told in a way that’s authentic, professional, and unforgettable, and that’s exactly what we show up to deliver every time.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, it came down to consistency and character more than any clever marketing. Early on, I made a decision that every project would leave the client feeling like we over-delivered, whether it was a major brand or a one-person business shooting their first promo. Word travels fast in a city like Austin, and reputation is built one shoot at a time. People remember how you made them feel, whether you showed up prepared, and whether the final product actually moved the needle for them.
Three things helped the most. First, quality we wouldn’t compromise on, even when it cost us more time or money. Second, genuinely caring about our clients’ goals, so we became a creative partner instead of just a vendor. And third, reviews and referrals. We now have hundreds of five-star reviews, and most of our new business as an Austin video production company comes from past clients telling their network about us. That kind of organic trust can’t be bought, and it’s the foundation everything else is built on.
The other piece is showing up in the community and letting the work speak. When local founders, agencies, and marketing teams keep seeing content that looks and feels a cut above, you become the name people mention when someone asks, “who should we hire to shoot this?” That reputation took years to build, and we protect it on every single project.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There was a stretch early on where I had bet everything on Tone Films and the math just wasn’t working yet. Projects fell through at the last minute, money was tight, and I was wearing every hat: director, editor, producer, and the guy chasing down invoices. There were nights I genuinely wondered if I’d made the wrong call leaving stability behind. I’m originally from Romania, and building something from scratch in a new country with no safety net makes those moments hit even harder.
What got me through was a simple refusal to quit on the vision. I kept telling myself that if I just kept showing up, kept sharpening the craft, and kept treating every client like they were my only client, the business would eventually catch up to the standard I was holding myself to. So I kept reinvesting, kept learning new gear and techniques, and kept saying yes to projects that stretched me beyond what was comfortable.
The turning point wasn’t one big break. It was a slow compounding of trust. One happy client referred another, a small shoot led to a bigger one, and the reputation started to build on itself. Looking back, those lean years are exactly what forged the discipline that now makes Tone Films a trusted Austin video production company. Resilience, for me, was never one dramatic moment. It was the daily decision to show up and do excellent work even when no one was clapping yet, and that mindset is still how we operate today.
