We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Zacarias recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andrea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
Looking back, I was deeply immersed in studying to become a nurse. I had two part-time jobs, one of them being a nanny. Despite all my efforts towards college, I found myself feeling stressed and unfulfilled. Most of my days were consumed by pursuing a path that didn’t align with my true passions. If you had asked me three years ago, I would have wished to fast-forward to a time when I was following my dreams. I often wondered how different my journey might have been if I had devoted all my energy towards my business and where life would have taken me; However, my perspective has shifted. As I began to deepen my faith and trust in God, I came to realize that everything unfolds in its own perfect timing. I understood that the challenges and lessons I faced were not obstacles, but necessary steps in my growth. Each experience was a part of a larger plan, guiding me towards where I was meant to be. Today, I embrace my journey with gratitude, knowing that every moment has prepared me for the next step.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey began in an unexpected way. While working as a nanny, during the quiet moments when the kids were busy playing, I found myself captivated by makeup tutorials and stories of how makeup artists started their business. I then began researching makeup schools and enrolled in my first course. After completing it, I started taking on clients for free to build my portfolio. Gradually, I began charging modest rates, accepting whatever clients were willing to pay. As I continued to grow my clientele, my skills and reputation flourished
Today, with several certifications and licenses, I offer makeup, microblading, and hair styling services. My goal is to ensure that every client receives the best possible experience and results. I want my clients and followers to know that my dedication to becoming a better artist is ongoing, and I am always striving to improve so that I can provide exceptional work.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is that I get to turn all the things I love into my career. I love painting, listening to music, capturing moments through photography and video, and bringing it all together through editing. What started as hobbies, slowly started to become a profession. I could sit for hours doing this.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I decided to follow my dreams of becoming a makeup artist, I faced a lot of criticism from those who didn’t know me and even those closest to me. Many of whom I felt would support me, would advise me to go back to school while others would express negative opinions about my work. I didn’t allow their negativity to bring me down, instead, I allowed it to ignite a fire within me. Throughout my journey, I quickly realized that the real support came from my husband and the people I met along the way. Their encouragement became a powerful reminder of genuine support and strength in continuing to become greater than what I had originally imagined and to always stand strong against those who tell you your dreams are impossible.
