We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Andrea , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Andrea: “Music has always been with me, since I was a really little kid. I’m pretty sure at the age of 4 or 5, when I started performing, I told my parents that I was “going to be a singer when I grew up”. And it’s been almost non-stop since then.
Jeff: “After playing a handful of shows with some of my first bands in college.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Wicked River Band was started when we, Jeff and Andrea, both made the decision to leave our previous long term projects around the same time. “We initially didn’t want to start a band together, since we had just started dating. But after about a year of being together, and playing music all of the time together anyway, we just said ‘why fight it’ and that’s when Wicked River Band was born”
We play Dirty Rock n’ roll and just like to have fun on stage and rock out.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Come to a show and buy merch/music! This is one of the biggest ways we get direct support from fans and people who connect to our music. With how music is consumed now, with streaming, It means a lot when someone actually likes an artist enough to buy their music.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Music has never been a “Career choice” for most musicians. It chooses you. We’ve both tried to do other paths, and it always leads us back to music. Nothing else ever works or feels right.
