We recently connected with ANDREA WOJCIAK and have shared our conversation below.
ANDREA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
I love that the fashion and interior design industries are always talking to each other. I’m not sure what came first the grand millenial interiors trend or the coastal grandmother fashion trend but I believe they both lie in a collective goal to become more sustainable. All this to say, thrifting antiques and embracing the cozyness of beadboard, wallpaper, mixing patterns and a resurgence of marble and rich wood tones is all the rage!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my design business just as my youngest were starting preschool. I had enjoyed being a stay at home mom but was ready to do something creative and unenthused by the idea of returning to public relations and marketing. Meanwhile, my friends were constanting asking for home design advice, I was obsessed with Pinterest and home decor magazines. I had run out of rooms to decorate in my own house and I had this pull to do something different. I signed up for some design classes and the rest is history. This industry has been very good to me.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I designed a spectacular restaurant space a few years ago. We had an amazing interior architect on the project which really helped drive the concept. I really just colored inside his lines and the space is dear to me for so many reasons. I learned so much on the job as it was early in my career but I also had so many opportunities to flex my confidence in working with color, mixing patterns and trusting my design instincts. Needless to say it also has boosted my reputation in our community.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
We all learned this in grade school right? There’s no such thing as a dumb question! It’s still something that I remind myself of all the time. I struggle with imposters syndrome for sure, and it takes some vulnerability to get there but I”m also a deeply curious person so I ask a ton of questions without shame. There are so many talented trade people that I work with daily and I’m grateful for the knowledge they share with me. I use everyone around me as a resource constantly! I no longer expect to have all the answers and lean into the collaboration of design work. It’s truly where the magic happens.
