We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Trimble. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Often times growing up while in school or in social settings people would tell me that I should “smile more”. After getting to know me people would say “I thought you mean” “I never approached you because you didn’t look friendly”. As I was thinking of names, I wanted to have something that gave people a different prospective of me. With the name Andrea’s Sweet Side; you always get a smile, great customer service and a sweet that will warm your heart. I use the slogan “Get In Touch With Your Sweet Side” to remind people to celebrate however they like to, get conversations started and smile.
Andrea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started baking when I was 15, I was always so intrigued by Cake boss and how creative they were the process and how they made other people feel by giving them a service, and it really inspired me. I originally just wanted to bake for family and just try out new things. I was always creative, but I never knew how to push that type of creativity out of my brain and into the world. It’s so crazy because what was once a hobby became not a job but my life. Andrea’s Sweet Side specializes in mini customized cupcakes, cakesicles and Oversized Cookie Bars. I feel like I set myself apart from everyone else because I put love into what I do, you know I tell people all the time I don’t have a storefront, I don’t have sponsors so when it comes to my craft and the time in the effort that I put into it, it’s truly like you’re getting something that your grandmother has made. When it comes to the process of somebody planning a wedding, birthday party or even a just because occasion, I sit down with that person and I ask them what are you looking for? What do you like? What don’t you like? Do you have any designs ideas in mind? I do everything I can to try to ensure that their vision is coming to life. I’m so proud of my dedication and growth. I have put in a lot of time to perfect not just what my products look like but what they taste like.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I actually grew my clientele from my full-time job. Being in an industry that is so customer service driven and you focus on marketing and providing a product that you have to know so much about I took all of those KeyPoints and I applied that to my business. When people were coming to my workplace, I would spark conversations with them, and that conversation would turn into “Oh my gosh I’m a Baker”. Not only would build so many friendships just from being such a customer service driven within in my own job that when I would reach out to people that I had met through that Avenue and told them to refer a friend. They were willing to because they already knew which type what type of service I was willing to provide as a person. I always tell people if you have a 9-5 while striving to have a business, use that 9-5 to make connections and network.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that not everyone will support you. Often times we think that our friends are supposed to buy from us or our family should support us. In reality our biggest supporters are strangers. That’s not to say that there’s something wrong with that. I just had to unlearn to not be hurt when I am expecting for people who know how much time and effort I have put into this too, be at the forefront of supporting me.
