We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Thompson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Growing up I watched my mom and my grandmother bake and cook for many people. They even had a catering business called First Class Events. Their hard work was admirable. As an adult I would always find my way in the kitchen. I struggled with cooking, but baking was always a success. While on maternity leave in 2020, in the height of the pandemic, I, like many others birthed my business of baking. I began baking and posting photos to social media, just to peak the public’s interest. Within the first week, I was booked, busy, and surprised. I could have never imagined the response I received. And because business was doing so well, I wanted to commit to it, and do it the right way: 6 months I was officially a business. And although it has been a challenge, with motherhood and business, I am continuously learning to balance it all. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Andrea Thompson, owner of Krimsyn’s Treats and Cookies- affectionately named after my one and only daughter. I offer ‘from scratch’ gourmet cookies and brownies. Some of which have been in my family for several generations. Other recipes have my personal spin on them. Regardless of the recipe, I put love into each treat. I work with local vendors and participate in our Farmers Market-selling out each time. In this type of business, I’ve learned to accommodate my customers, but also make sure they are visually appeased. Not only do my treat taste delicious, but they look delicious!
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Currently I have a store on Etsy, KrimsynsTreats, offering over 15 different flavors of gourmet treats. But people can also place local orders through my social media. Hopefully, within the next few years, I’ll have a brick and mortar.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I learned that consistency is key. I posted my cookies and brownies multiple times a week. I created social media pages for my business, so that my content was niched and narrowed down. I didn’t want there to be any confusion about what I provided-AWESOME TREATS. Through loyal customers, ‘word of mouth’, and client testimonials, my social media platforms continue to grow! Social media can definitely be a tool, when building business, and it has certainly helped me build mine!
