Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrea Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
I am a Pro Dog Trainer for over 25 years..so when I say serve the “underserved community”” I mean the Dogs and Animals.. sacrifice that dogs have made for humans include supporting us as companions, helping us with mobility, cancer research, bomb sniffers,etc..cows and buffalos give meat and bees provide honey.. Yet so many animals end up abused or thrown into shelters..
So 25 years ago I decided to serve the “underserved” .
Also I am producing TV show about my life as a dog rescuer, I am quite aware that to hire a dog trainer can be thousands of dollars.. so I thought let’s do a TV show… Not to be famous.. lol..but to get my resources and positive training methods to people that may not have access to my services or be able to afford it…The Underserved!!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well.. let’s start by saying I have been working with dogs from the ground up for over 25 years so lol I believe this makes me an expert! And I have learned so much about having a business and understanding how to train dogs with respect and still get the results I need for my clients! I call my business Dreadogworld.. because I like to do things my way and doing things my way means to me doing things that is humane for Dogs..
I have become more patient and flexible working with some really tough cases…I know my city and how to connect with the People..My instincts grow everyday and simply helping a dog overcome stress and avoid being put to sleep or in a shelter has become simply my greatest Joys in life!
I am looking forward to bringing this to the world of media!
Humans love dogs and I want to share the joy!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy has been gaining professional referrals! I have built my clientele by doing a professional job and doing my best to get results! Also by building my skill set, reading books, and taking seminars, mostly free seminars at first!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
A few things help me build my reputation in the market… I was always at every pet event passing out flyers and talking to people and meeting dogs! It’s unlikely that you’ll meet a dog trainer in person because they’re always in the background working with the dogs in the parks… But I made sure that everywhere I went I introduced myself and it was fun having people stare at me weird and go what a dog trainer huh… Always giving free advice because almost everybody has dogs and people like to talk about their pets..
