We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Scrivanich a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea , thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
One evening, I came across a photo of a bride standing in the middle of the desert. The light, the setting, the feeling—it stayed with me. It made me realize how powerful location can be in telling a love story.
I had already been photographing weddings and portraits, but this sparked something deeper. I started imagining how to bring that level of emotion and style to destination work. It wasn’t just about travel—it was about offering clients a more artful and meaningful experience.
Dubai felt like the right place to start. I planned a full editorial shoot, pulled together a creative team, and followed the vision. When it all came together, I knew I was building something special. That first shoot helped shape the direction of my work and how I connect with clients around the world.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Andrea Scrivanich, a wedding and portrait photographer with over a decade of experience. My journey into photography was not a traditional one. I spent nearly 15 years in the corporate world before discovering this craft as a creative outlet. What began as a personal passion slowly became a professional calling.
Today, I photograph weddings, engagements, portraits, and destination bridal editorials. My style is timeless, emotive, and rooted in storytelling. I’ve had the privilege of capturing love in cities like Paris, Dubai, and Istanbul, and I bring the same care and intention to every shoot, whether local or international.
Beyond the images, I focus on creating a seamless and supportive experience. From guiding clients through planning to collaborating with vendors, I aim to reflect each couple’s story in an honest and elevated way.
What sets my work apart is the personal connection I build with each client. Many become lifelong friends. I’m most proud of the trust they place in me during some of the most meaningful moments in their lives.
At the core of my brand is a love for people and for telling real, beautiful stories through my lens.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Early in my journey, reading You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero helped me shift my mindset and gain the confidence to step into entrepreneurship. But it was only the beginning.
Books like Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert helped me embrace the creative process with less fear, while Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller gave me the tools to communicate more clearly and intentionally with clients. That clarity has made a huge difference in how I approach both branding and service.
I’ve also learned a great deal from creatives like Jenna Kutcher and Jasmine Star. Their podcasts taught me how to balance artistry with strategy and continue growing a business that feels aligned with my values.
These resources reminded me that consistency, clarity, and self-belief can take you further than raw talent alone.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, my side hustle eventually became my full-time career.
While working in the corporate world, I photographed friends and family on weekends. Over time, it grew into something more. I started working with a wedding photography studio, booked more clients, and slowly built up my portfolio and confidence.
By 2016, I was feeling burned out at my 9-to-5 and energized by the creative work I was doing on the side. I made the decision to go full time, and I haven’t looked back.
Some key milestones include planning and funding my first international editorial shoots in Dubai and Cyprus, which helped elevate my portfolio. From there, I began photographing weddings and editorials in Italy, Paris, and beyond. I’ve been featured on national platforms, and even saw my work displayed in Times Square.
What began as a creative outlet has become a business built on intention, trust, and meaningful storytelling.
