We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Schumacher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
At Andrea Schumacher Interiors, we believe that the concept of “less is more” in design often overlooks the emotional and personal aspects that make a space truly unique and inviting. While minimalism is a popular trend that many in the industry advocate for, we hold that a well-curated, layered space filled with meaningful objects, vibrant colors, and personal touches can create a more authentic and warm environment.
Many designers emphasize simplicity and restraint, but we believe that a fully realized space can reflect individuality and storytelling. Every piece in a room should contribute to the narrative of those who live there, and embracing a more eclectic approach can lead to interiors that feel alive and resonate on a deeper level. In our view, the best designs are those that balance aesthetics with personality, allowing spaces to feel both stylish and deeply personal.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
At Andrea Schumacher Interiors, we pride ourselves on creating inviting and personalized spaces that truly reflect the individuality of our clients. Based in Denver, Colorado, our firm combines contemporary design with classic elements to produce interiors that are both stylish and timeless.
I believe that understanding my clients’ lifestyles, preferences, and aspirations is essential to crafting unique environments. I strive to ensure that every space we design tells a story, incorporating a mix of textures, colors, and carefully selected furnishings to create a cohesive and dynamic atmosphere.
Our services range from residential to commercial projects, and we are committed to quality and attention to detail in every aspect of our work. Collaborating with skilled artisans and trusted vendors is a priority for us, as it allows us to thoughtfully curate each design element.
Ultimately, my goal with Andrea Schumacher Interiors is to transform spaces into beautiful, functional environments that resonate with my clients and enhance their everyday lives. I believe that a well-designed space should feel alive and reflect the unique stories of those who inhabit it.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my social media audience has been an exciting and evolving journey. I’ve always believed that staying ahead of changing trends is crucial in the fast-paced world of social media.
One of the strategies that have worked well for me is creating engaging videos that showcase our design process, tips, and transformations. I love bringing my audience along on the journey, whether it’s a behind-the-scenes look at a project, quick design hacks, or showcasing finished spaces. Video content tends to resonate more with viewers, and I’ve found that it helps foster a deeper connection with my audience.
Additionally, I make a point to engage directly with my audience by responding to comments and messages, asking for their opinions on design choices, and encouraging them to share their own design stories. This interaction not only builds community but also helps create a space where my followers feel valued and heard.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Growing up traveling the world, with my father being a renowned vaccinologist, I had to learn to pivot at an early age. I was fortunate to experience diverse cultures, traditions, and aesthetics from a young age. These experiences shaped my worldview and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty of different design styles.
As I reflected on my travels, I noticed how each destination had its own unique design elements—textures, colors, and materials that told a story. I began to understand that incorporating these influences into my designs could create spaces that felt both worldly and inviting.
This realization prompted me to evolve my design philosophy. I started to intentionally seek out inspiration from various cultures and integrate those elements into my projects, creating what I like to call a “traveled look.” Whether it’s a Moroccan lantern, Japanese textiles, or Italian ceramics, I embrace these pieces as a way to tell a story and bring a sense of history and depth to my designs.
This pivot not only enriched my work but also allowed me to connect with clients on a deeper level. Many of them share a love for travel and culture, and incorporating these elements into their homes resonates with their personal stories. Ultimately, my upbringing and experiences have been invaluable in shaping my design approach, reminding me that the world is a tapestry of inspiration waiting to be woven into our lives.
