We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Sadler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I knew the things I know now then, I would start over by listening to my own thoughts. I would record episodes still on a schedule and not so much off of emotion because I feel like it opened doors that I did not want to be open but at the same time it made me who I am today. I wouldn’t be so trustworthy with others because at times I feel like I’m only used for their benefit and not for friendship. I would definitely start over and have my podcast visual as I love to please my listeners and viewers with this.
Andrea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a 32 year old mom of 1. I work primarily with individuals who are special needs or mental health and substance abuse. I am currently in college for my bachelors of science for business administration. I started my podcast 1 year and a half ago called CyclePath. It’s a play on the word but has a meaning as well. Cycle (something that keeps happening over and over again) and Path ( a journey) I felt, at the time my life was at a standstill and things kept repeating theirselves. Also, I went thru really bad post partum depression and was called a psychopath on many occasions so I took that word and used it as a “positive” perse. When I created my logos, I try to channel a caricature of a “psychopath” with my photo and adding “dark” things around it. I talked mainly about my PPD and relationship in my first season. My second season which ended like that long ago I saw that I tried to be someone I wasn’t which was have panels and guest every week. While I do enjoy the panels and guests, I’m more of a solo podcaster with guests on a occasion. No topic is off limits so that is a good reason for guests however, a lot of the time I am telling a personal story, saying how I feel about things and giving my unwanted opinion on things. Season 3 will be coming soon and I have an idea of how I want it to be. I most definitely and going to stay myself and it try and be like others. I want my listeners and potential listeners to know that I am authentically me, a lot of things I share is to help another person out and I am somewhat of a corny comedian. Lol!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I invest in my business a lot because as of right now, I am not sponsored. But it’s small investments, I buy more quality webcams, microphones and a better ring light. I pay for the streaming service I record on and other things to transfer files, make logos and edit. It’s not much right now but it’s more than what I started off with. On the more “business” aspect of things. Trademarking and LLC’n your brand is extremely important and I suggest you do that right away!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Promote! Promote! Promote! I have a schedule of when I promote my podcast and what days, what hashtags to use and so on. Also, going on other platforms where there are others to network with. Follow pages and promote to them. It’s all in promotion. It may be slow at first but it will pick up.
