We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Rivas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I scored my first job after months of applying before I even graduated from PA school! I interviewed for two very different specialties, Urgent Care and Aesthetic Dermatology and Wellness. I was very interested in both fields, however I had originally went into PA school with the goal in specializing in Medical and Aesthetic Dermatology. I went to both interviews, while the Urgent Care was promising and offered great educational tools, I thought to myself, if I can move forward with Aesthetics now as a new graduate, I should take this opportunity. I know that being in this position can be hard to come by, requiring that you have experience in other fields or in medical dermatology for many years before going into Aesthetics and injecting, so I decided to move forward with the Medical Spa that I am currently working in now! I am very happy with my decision to go straight into my preferred specialty.
Andrea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Certified Physician Assistant in the Boca Raton, Fl. I specialize in Aesthetic Dermatology and Wellness. I am an Injector Educator as well. I perform services that include, but not limited to, fillers, neurotoxins, Microneedling, Radiofrequency, Platelet Rich Plasma treatments, PDO smooth threads, Chemical peels, Laser hair removal, Hormonal Replacement Therapy, Bloodwork, IV therapy, Body sculpting, Peptide therapy, and more. I have a natural approach to my work, I believe less is more. My motto is “Low and Slow”. I am proud of being an Aesthetic injector with a natural approach, I like to focus on facial balancing and harmonization.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
One million times yes I would choose the same profession and specialty. I love being a PA-C with a vast knowledge of medicine and to practice medicine. I am very passionate about Aesthetic Dermatology and love making my patients happy by boosting their confidence. I decided to become a PA in high school and I am very glad I stuck with that choose through all the trial and tribulations.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Word of mouth and patient referrals have been a huge help in building my reputation in my field. Instagram has also helped out with reaching more people. Instagram was how I actually got connected with the company I am now an Injector Educator for. My patients have great trust in my vision and motto of “Low and Slow”, this helps build trust with those that refer in. My natural approach is sought after and not very common to find in my area, so once I show my work or people see my work from the people they know, that helps a lot with building up my reputation.
