We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Redic a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
Growing Up I never understood why my grandmother didn’t allow us to do everything our peers where doing at our ages. I thought she was just a mean granny. Hindsight, I now understand it made me who I am today. The ability to move alone the ability to do when no ones else thinks it can be done. The ability to to be stretched and not fold. The ability to make good decision in spite of outside influence. Now, as a business owner all of those abilities and characteristic traits has allow me to grow my business and Sustain my business through all types of obstacles even a pandemic!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am what you would consider a serial entrepreneur. When I started my business as a hairstylist I did it merely because I enjoyed it. One thing I learned very quickly is to NEVER assume you’re going to make a lot of money right off the bat just because you have passion and skills. It takes Hard Work, Discipline & Resources. Since I wasn’t making much money doing what I loved I went and got my Real Estate license in 2008 . I invite you to take the time out and read about what happen to the Real Estate market in 2008. That sent me right back to doing what I was doing as hairstylist. A few years later I started to see some success in my hairstylist business. Enough success to were I no longer needed a part time job to help pay my bills to me that was GREAT! I moved on to opening my own salon in 2017 and things were great until the Pandemic. I was forced to close down and could no longer do what I loved. No income to take care of my children. I considered trying to go get a corporate job. I knew I wouldn’t be happy with that because I worked so hard to start my business. Then I remember 2008! I had a Real Estate license. I called the Texas Real Estate Commission to see what all I need to do to get my license re active. Oh, and it wasn’t easy. I had to re take several courses and retake the test. It had been over a decade since I received my license. I passed my test and jumped right in! By this times I already had two businesses that were already suffering due to the Pandemic
Creative Impression Hair Salon & In And Out Tax Refund. People thought I was crazy starting another business. I started Redic Realty Group LLC joined a local brokerage and God has put his hands around me and all three of my businesses. I reopened the salon. Hired a marketing team to re brand the Tax office and focused on growing my Real Estate company. I will tell you that I thought of how all these different businesses would integrate. I must say they all work together and are growing from each other. I have clients that supports all three of my businesses and today they are all thriving
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I chose this question because I think this is the part that most people leave out. It’s important to know what banks will help you. At the time I started my business I had no clue were to get funding. A friend told me about Navy Federal Credit Union. I called got assigned to a loan officer. It’s really important to tell your story. I got a chance to tell my loan office my story. He saw I had good credit and help me get my line of credit approved.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
One thing I had to learn as a entrepreneur is you have to ask for business. Don’t assume that your family and friends are going to refer you people just because they know you have a business. Constantly, remind them how important their referrals are and how much you appreciate them referring people to your business. Don’t be to proud to ASK!
