We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Pass. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love public relations and have been involved in the PR world since my high school days. From handling media relations for the CBS Radio Division to working for New York City-based and Los Angeles-based public relations firms to establishing Andrea Pass Public Relations, press outreach and the “pitch ‘n place” lane is one that I excel in.
I call myself a “PI in PR” — meaning that I take the time to investigate press opportunities and do the research necessary to be sure that each client’s message reaches the right media contact with the goal of securing interviews, product reviews, quotes and more.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Relationships Matter is my two-word mantra. It is through relationships that I have grown Andrea Pass Public Relations.
Being authentic is of the utmost importance. I tell it like it is. I effectively communicate so that long-term contacts know that I am available to handle their press outreach and that new connections understand the value of PR in the marketing mix.
For me, staying in touch and meeting new networking partners is key. I spend a good deal of time attending networking gatherings, running a networking group (Access Success Networking), speaking at networking events about public relations and growing those relationships are the most effective methods of growing my clientele.
Finally, I get the job done. Clients know that when they hire me, I jump in the deep end and immediately begin media outreach to secure press coverage for those businesses, authors and non-profits to help grow brand awareness to drive sales or to reach other vital company goals.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I worked for a “bully boss.” I had amazing co-workers and absolutely loved my clients (and the feeling was mutual). However, the “bully boss” did everything to try to break me down while making sure that I overproduced for the clients and secured new business for that agency. While I might have cried quite a bit, I finally held my head up high and secured a new position with a “sweet boss” who appreciated my knowledge and abilities and trusted me to run the media relations side of the agency.
It was a result of both experiences that I created Andrea Pass Public Relations as a solopreneurship. I recognized that I am able to get the job done for my clients and, at this stage of my career, I don’t need a staff or interns to do so. I have the experience and ability to secure press coverage for a wide range of clients to help them grow their businesses.
