We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Ocampo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Andrea, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
My answer for what it takes to be successful would have probably been different a couple of years ago than it is now. Other than believing in your dreams, of course being successful means different things for all of us and my version of success is someone who is at peace and finds joy no matter where they are in their life and career. Success ebbs and flows and if we’re going to be attached to being on top of our career 100% of the time then your sense of success will be contingent on things outside of our control. I strive to create fulfillment at every season of my television and media career.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I went to school for broadcast journalism and I always knew I wanted to be a journalist. My trajectory started on the sidelines as a Miami Dolphins Cheerleader, while I interned at NBC6. These early opportunities served as the catalyst for numerous doors to open, leading me to the role of arena host for the NHL Florida Panthers. It was during this tenure that my path as a sports reporter solidified, having collaborated with various news outlets and television programs. Throughout three seasons with the Panthers, I gained experience, simultaneously securing positions with media entities such as Disney, Univision, FAU College Football and CNN. Shortly after, I embarked on a journey with the WWE as a bilingual host, traversing the globe to engage audiences. Amidst my passion for storytelling, I found myself consulting for brands and athletes on matters of branding while traveling the world.
This intersection of media and entrepreneurship culminated in the creation of HBU Media, leveraging my wealth of media expertise. My career propelled me into the realm of Web3 projects. Recognizing the transformative potential of Web3 in media, I embarked on the creation of “Goddess of the Elements,” a fantasy novel mixed with Web3 capabilities, poised to revolutionize storytelling. Driven by a profound commitment to community and narrative, this project epitomizes my aspiration to shatter barriers and showcasing the possibilities of storytelling in the digital age.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I wanted to learn more about NFTS and what WEB3 was all about. My agency HBU Media was hired by numerous projects trying to get press and exposure and the WEB3 vertical really intrigued me. I decided to create Goddess of the Elements with my own money which was a huge risk knowing that this industry was very new. I’ve invested many of my resources in order to launch the project and some would say that I was crazy knowing how unpredictable a startups future is. Since then I’ve been viewed as a leader in the space and I’ve garnered numerous of opportunities because of it. We are about to get fully funded and I would of never of been here unless I took that risk.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was working in sports for more than eight years and after I stopped working with the WWE I made the decision that I didn’t want to work in sports anymore. I decided to launch my media agency HBU Media which took alot of courage because I had to pivot into something that although I knew I was good at being but being an entrepreneur was new for me. I ‘m glad I made the jump because I’ve been helping people build their brands ever since.
