We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Luu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I’m trying to reintroduce spirituality back into mental health practices through tarot. I hope that my decks can be used as a tool for healers to help others on their healing journey.
I’m not sure what people will say about me when I’m gone but based on the feed back from my community members, there’s been a lot of “thank you for doing the work” and it means a lot that people find value in my tarot decks.

Andrea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My trajectory is a bit of a mish mash of experiences from different fields but I first got into tarot back in 2016 when I purchased my first deck from an artist I wanted to support. At the time, I was saving up to go back to school to pursue the arts after leaving corporate, then went into graphic design after my professors said I was “really talented.” Around the time that covid started, I had to figure out how to make money while in school so I started reading for my friends for pay. Eventually, I got into design and worked the industry for 3 years until the job market crash, and then I went through a breakup. I decided to turn to my tarot deck for advice and I couldn’t remember any of the card meanings, so I thought “why don’t I just design my own tarot decks?”
I am now very well known amongst my community members for my tarot readings and personally advocating for better mental health practices. My brand originally was focused on purely design work so I’m still accepting jobs as a freelancer, but now I also design and produce my own tarot decks, perform readings at pop ups, and help people connect with themselves. My sea glass artwork is very much part of my brand even though it’s taken a back seat, but the premise of everything I do has always been about figuring out ways to be present with yourself.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
To be very transparent , I came across initial capital when I went through my divorce and have quietly invested it for several years until I had enough funds to invest in my business.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met her on Hinge. Honestly, I’ve met all of my friends on Hinge, but we became friends and remotely talked for a while until I started this business idea, and she was willing to help me. She does the communications, production management, and helped set up my website. She’s very much left brain of the operation while I’m the right brain.
