We recently connected with Andrea Gray and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andrea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was 8. My adopted mom use to draw a lot for our school projects. I remember seeing her draw and she looked so free doing it. I begin to doodle. I learned with trial and error. At 16 I knew I wanted to work for an art firm and at 18 I started college for graphic design.
Andrea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I fell into my industry because I saw a vision of girls wearing my nails around the world. It started at this job I had, acrylic nails were prohibited due to it being a production plant. I remember laying awake in bed one night and I told my ex girlfriend what I’d like to pursue and she laughed and said “who still wears press-ons?”. That lit a fire inside of me. I’ve been making things shake ever since. When I started I learned everything I needed to know from YouTube then in 2023 I went on to become a licensed nail technician. I love the freedom it gives me to curate art.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Sure! At some point around 2022 business slowed down because salons were open again and I was stressing because I had a business that I had started during the pandemic. I thought my reign was over but little did I know I was just getting started. My visibility started to increase way more than I could ever imagine. Things started to look up and my nails were on a few tv shows. I started to gain more traction to my site and business improved. Imagine what could’ve happened if I allowed myself to quit.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
To breath life into my art. Art is so fluid. It’s good to be in many spaces and see something I created.
