We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Gianotti a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andrea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
So basically my creative career started with a mistake, which later turned into a fresh new start. It was in 2018 when i bought a basic costume in a halloween shop, which strangely had a mask from a famous anime. Years later, in 2022, i went to my first cosplay event wearing that same costume and that same mask, and i heard people saying strange comments about my outfit; at the same time people were talking about how awesome my mask was, but that the dress was completely wrong. So i decided to invest money on the right dress, i dressed up properly (as the same Anime character) I recieved many compliments and the rest is history.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So, during my live i’ve never been into anime or manga, and didnìt even know that the Cosplay world existed. In 2022 I went to my first convention and I’ve fallen in love with that world! The part of being a cosplayer i love the most is playing the character as if i was in a theatral play and interacting with other cosplayers or fans. I don’t have a particular mission, just having fun doing what i love, making people smile and being an entertainer.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a Cosplayer is making people happy; everytime a person smiles, everytime a fan sees in me his/hers favourite character, everytime I hear a compliment from a fan or another cosplayer I feel happy and satisfied, and i remember the real reason why I do what I do.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my personal opinion, in our society artists and creatives are respected and appreciated, but we are still restricted in particolar zones or contextes that can fit with their styles, while if people sees an artist walking normally down the street they may judge him/her; i would love to live in a world when an artist can be him/hersefl even if not in a theater or an event without being judged.
