We recently connected with Andrea Faggionato and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andrea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I started off as a speech-language-pathologist working in the pediatric home health setting. I practiced with beyond full caseloads throughout the entire valley for five years. While treating patients I would often hear parents say they have been waiting months or even years for services. It really bothered me that families were not receiving the services they needed and I knew I needed to take action. So, since I was raised in a family with a dad who was self-employed and was raised helping run the family business, I decided to take the leap and open my own pediatric home health agency. Our mission at A Better Tomorrow Therapy is to become the most elite therapy agency in the community. We will provide exceptional therapies to all clients by creating and implementing individualized care plans that are functional for that patient while improving their quality of life. We will build rapport and develop strong professional relationships with our patients and their families and caregivers. By developing these strong relationships with our patient and their family/caregivers we can work together to maximize carryover of strategies for the patient. We also can assist the family and patient by guiding them through choices they may have to make and transitions that may come their way (i.e. transition from school to vocational programs, new programs, opportunities in the community etc.).
Andrea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a midwestern girl at heart! I was born and raised in Ohio. I attended the University of Toledo for undergrad and Baldwin Wallace University for graduate school. I pursued my education in speech language pathology. I chose speech language pathology because I had the desire to help others and individuals with disabilities has always been something near and dear to my heart. So I combined my two passions and became a speech-language pathologist! I was finishing my schooling in Ohio and I knew that I had to move somewhere with warmer weather so fast forward six months and I was driving across the country to a city that I did not know anyone. I practiced as a full-time speech pathologist for 5 years and then in 2021 opened A Better Tomorrow Therapy. A Better Tomorrow Therapy is a home health agency contracted with the Division of Developmental Disabilities. We provide in-home speech therapy, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, and physical therapy to the pediatric population. We hope in 2023 or 2024 to open a clinic location!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Funding my business… a daunting term that still gives me PTSD haha! Kidding! It can seem overwhelming to all of us to take a financial risk. I had been saving up to purchase a home and ended up using my home saving funds to open my business. It was scary to me to see that money being used for something else and no longer in my savings. I kept thinking am I ever going to be able to buy a house now!? Well fast forward a year and I have all of that money plus some to now purchase the house. It was really just prioritizing my goals and that is what I did!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Networking groups! It is so important to put yourself out there and go to business groups and any networking groups in your industry. It is hard sometimes to step out of your comfort zone and it can also be overwhelming to walk into a group of people who are more successful or have bigger businesses howver, you have to do it! I have learned so much from networking groups, peers, and business coaches. I am also a huge fan of any books by Ed Mylee and Mel Robbins. I think listening to their books or podcasts before work really sets my tone for the day!
