We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Doyley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Hey everyone, so before I’ve started taking my talents seriously I was in college majoring in medical assistant and starting a job in my career path, taking a class at the job to become a CNA and a GNA. The class was 30 days and I had a week left to finish before I graduated, and in college I had 5 classes left to finish before I become a GNA, CNA, and a medical assistant. During that week my uncle passed away and it was really hard for me but the instructor told me that I couldn’t miss a day. So I went to higher management and ask them will I be able to miss one day to say my final goodbye to my uncle, he told me that he can’t do it and that my uncle wouldn’t be more important than my career, and that I should skip his funeral. I was devastated and cried out that it would only be a day and I can make it up, and that I only had a week left before I obtain my licenses and even told him that if it was his kids or his wife he would ask and do the same thing and even take a week off of work. But he continued to tell me no so I cried and went outside and talked to God for guidance and help in my situation because I was stuck between quitting and going to my uncle funeral. While I was talking to God he gave me his peace and said go home and grieve, and work on your talents I gave you I will provide the rest. I went home and started working on every talent God gave me which was hair, art, becoming a YouTuber. It wasn’t easy at first but I took that risk leaving that job and school and a year later god help me make more than what I was getting paid to do at that job with doing hair, drawing my artwork, and becoming a creator and he even blessed me with a better job. Always remember when things happen in life and god gives you direction in your heart and peace, go and take the risk he will provide, might not be easy at first but in the end you will be glad of what he did.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey everyone I’m Andrea I am braiding hairstylist, and an artist that draws tattoos and art work for homes, I am also a YouTuber (Dreatheeartist). I have got into my industries by throwing myself out there on instagram and making videos on YouTube. I also work hard on becoming better at my skills by going out ask asking people to do their hair and giving them free artwork. I help my clients look better by giving them fresh hairstyles and also by drawing them their logos and creating portraits of their self or family members. The main thing that set me apart from others is my ambition to become better than my old self and working on perfecting my craft. I am most proud of the growth that came from when I first started to where I am now.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect in being an artist is giving my painting to my buyer and seeing them I love with it and them hanging it in their homes. And with be being a hairstylist, is seeing my clients feeling their self’s and loving the work I did on their hair. Mostly is seeing them in love with the talents god gave me to help them with.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first wanted to become a YouTuber and a hairstylist and an artist I was on instagram. I only had 500 followers and I just created art videos of my painting and hair videos of me doing hair and while I did this my page started growing before my eyes. The main thing that help me grown my page was the right hashtags! And asking people to share my post and just creating more and more videos that look great for ppl to see and want to follow. Then before I knew I had 5k followers. For the people who want to build I will say use reels and hashtags that are popular and make sure your videos looks very interesting enough so the people can click and want to follow!!
