Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrea Del Hoyo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Andrea, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve been drawing dresses and shoes for as long as I can remember. Fashion was always my thing, so choosing to study Fashion and Textile Design just felt right. That’s when I really fell in love with fashion illustration. At first, it was just a fun creative outlet—something I did on the side. I never imagined it would turn into my full-time job, but it naturally grew into something bigger, and now I get to do what I love every day.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a live event artist and fashion illustrator with over 10 years of experience. I’m from Mexico and I moved to California six years ago and started an Instagram account to share my fashion sketches as a hobby. After a few years of posting my illustrations, I began to be featured and published by luxury brands and magazines like Gucci, Schiaparelli, Bal Harbour Magazine, and others. That’s when I realized I had something valuable to offer and discovered the world of live events as an artist—something I had no idea existed.
My first opportunity as a live event artist came with Prada, where I created paper art illustrations for guests. It was an unforgettable experience working with one of my favorite brands, and seeing people’s reactions to my work was incredibly rewarding. Since then, I’ve collaborated with multiple brands and private clients, creating unique experiences through fashion sketches, calligraphy, paper art, and bottle painting. I’ve had the chance to work with some of my dream brands, including Prada, Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Bulgari, and more!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One moment that really tested—and built—my resilience was when I first moved to California. I had no connections in the art or fashion scene here, and starting over in a new place felt overwhelming. I began sharing my illustrations on Instagram purely as a creative outlet, not knowing if anyone would care or connect with my work.
There were months where nothing seemed to be happening, and I questioned if pursuing illustration seriously was even possible. But I kept creating and posting consistently, simply because I loved it. Slowly, that persistence started to pay off—brands began to notice, repost, and eventually this became my job.
I think resilience, for me, has looked like trusting my path even when it felt uncertain, staying true to my style, and continuing to show up and create when no one was watching. That mindset is what led me to my first live event with Prada—and so many other dream opportunities since.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
In the beginning of my creative journey, I wish I had known more about the business side of being an artist—how to price my work, negotiate contracts, and protect my rights. There are so many creative people doing amazing work, but without access to those resources, it’s easy to undervalue yourself or feel lost when trying to turn your passion into a profession.
Even if you work on your own, it’s so important to find a community of people who are doing the same thing or something similar—whether it’s online or locally. Working as a freelancer can feel isolating, and sometimes we have no clue where to begin. Having a community you can trust—people who have likely gone through the same struggles—can be incredibly helpful and grounding. Connecting with creatives who openly share their process and experiences taught me so much just by example.
If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, it would be this: don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek guidance, and treat your creativity as both an art and a business from the very beginning.
