We recently connected with Andrea Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
It is the mission of Your Grief Solution to provide individuals with the tools and support they need to move beyond loss and grief and to lead a more fulfilling life. I use the Grief Recovery Method to personally guide individuals through a structured process that helps them understand and navigate their emotions related to grief, enabling them to take specific action-steps and complete any unfinished emotional business with the relationship.
This work is extremely meaningful to me personally, in 2019 I lost my mother and my husband Dave unexpectedly just a few months apart from each other. It was during my own grief healing that I discovered that I had a calling to help others in their grief healing journey.
I thought I had done well managing/hiding the pain of these losses, but I was wrong. I realized that it wasn’t going away, and I really needed to focus on my personal recovery. When I discovered the Grief Recovery Method (GRM) program, I was provided the tools to navigate the seemingly endless grief waves. I realized if I was ever going to let go of the emotional pain, I had to learn to let go, move forward from it and ultimately find my new passion in life. I had completed the GRM program, I had finally found my calling, my purpose – to serve others and to help them with their grief, in honor of my mother and late husband Dave. The tools I gained were invaluable and the action-based program was exactly what I needed and wanted to share with other grievers.

Andrea , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began my career as a grief recovery educator after my mother and husband passed away in 2019. After their passing, I was soul searching and looking for my purpose in life, I ultimately realized that helping others through their grief was something that I was passionate about. I personally went through the Grief Recovery Method to help me in my own grief and knew that other people needed to know about this option as well.
At the time I didn’t understand or know how I was going to help others; I just knew in my heart that’s the path I was meant to go down and my passion for helping others grew from there. I am a Grief Recovery Specialist certified through the Grief Recovery Institute using the Grief Recovery Method. The Institute is a non-profit organization that uses the Method which is evidence-based and action-oriented to help people move through the emotional pain of loss.
My main focus in healing others is to help them move beyond the emotional pain of loss using small, corrective action-steps. People get stuck in their grief, and they don’t know or understand the best way to move forward. The resources are just not out there. The course I provide to help them heal a broken heart is time-based and effective. Individuals walk away feeling lighter, a renewed perspective, and they will have a method and tools to use anytime during their life that grief arises. There is not another program that exists that can offer them that.
As mentioned, the Grief Recovery Method is an effective way to teach people how to deal with the pain associated with emotional loss. I am honored that research conducted by Kent State University has shown that The Grief Recovery Method approach to helping grievers deal with the pain of emotional loss in any relationship. I am also honored to say that this program is the only Grief Support Program in the world to have received this distinction, which means it is proven to work. It is also what sets me and my course apart from other traditional drop-in grief support groups. My business model is about healing the heart and not staying stuck in the pain and suffering of loss.
The main thing that I want my clients or society in general to know is that I have been in their shoes, I have sat in a similar grief wave, and I have come out on top living my best life. I reclaimed the quality of life back and can now say that I live a happier more joyful life because of going through the program. I will walk with them through their grief journey providing empathy and support for their unique situation.
I remember reading one of the first lines in ‘The Grief Recovery Handbook’, where the author John W. James says, “No one wakes up one morning and decides to make grief their life’s work!” And yet, here I am, deeply committed to supporting those who are grappling with the emotional aftermath of loss. Whether it’s from the end of a relationship, divorce, job loss, or bereavement, I’ve found that my own journey has allowed me to connect with people in a way that makes them feel both safe and understood. It’s a unique gift, but it only works when individuals are truly ready to let go of their pain and take steps toward healing. Before I encountered the Grief Recovery Method, I never imagined that one day I’d be teaching it to others. My goal has always been to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who are hurting, and I promised myself that if I ever reached a point where I felt healed, I would dedicate myself to helping others.
It’s my hope to bring more open conversations around grief, loss, and death to the forefront, as I believe this is crucial for improving mental health and overall well-being. I aim to dispel the myths about grief that keep people stuck, help them see there’s an effective path to recovery, and reduce the stigma surrounding loss. It’s possible to live a joyful life after profound loss, and I’ve seen this firsthand.
The testimonies that I receive after my course are so inspiring, moments like these make everything worthwhile, and that’s what I am most proud of. My participants remind me that, even when doubt creeps in, the work that I do is making an impact and it matters. The more I talk about grief, the more inspired I become, because I’ve learned that in those difficult conversations lie the strength and courage to truly heal. It’s an amazing feeling!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2019 grief hit me like a wave as it would anyone after losing a loved one, my grief was overwhelming and relentless. After losing my mother and my husband Dave a few short months apart, I found myself stuck in a cycle of pain, unsure how to move forward. The emotional toll was more than I could bear on my own, and it felt like the world was continuing without me. That’s when I discovered the Grief Recovery Method, a structured process that promised more than just time-based healing—it offered real tools to address the emotional pain I was carrying. Through this method, I learned that my grief wasn’t something I had to “get over” but rather something I needed to work through, step by step. By acknowledging my feelings and letting go of the misconceptions I held about grief, I began to see that healing my broken heart was possible.
The Grief Recovery Method gave me the resilience I needed to face the future with a renewed sense of hope. It wasn’t easy, but as I worked through the action-steps, I noticed a shift. I began to regain my emotional balance, and the heavy fog of loss started to lift. With each step, I felt lighter, and for the first time, I could see a path forward. The method didn’t just help me cope; it allowed me to reclaim joy and purpose in my life. Now, I use the same process to help others through my work, guiding grievers toward the same healing and resilience that brought me back to life.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The only thing that I can attribute to my success is using the Grief Recovery Method as a foundation, one key factor in building a strong reputation within the grief community is the focus on providing tangible, evidence-based solutions for those dealing with loss. By offering a structured and compassionate approach that has proven results, the Grief Recovery Method sets itself apart from more general forms of emotional support.
Other elements that contribute to building my reputation are trust through credibility. The Grief Recovery Method is a well-established program based on over 45 years of research and real-world application. By aligning with a recognized methodology, it creates trust among those seeking guidance for their grief.
Personalization and empathy also help to foster a deeper connection with my clients by addressing each individual’s unique grief experience and giving them the tools needed to help them heal. By using practical results, these success stories naturally lead to word-of-mouth recommendations, helping build credibility and a solid reputation over time.
