We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Correa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a lesson you learned in school that’s stuck with you and has meaningfully impacted your journey?
One lesson I learned in 8th grade is how true the following statement is: it’s all about who you know. The power of community. I was able to graduate from the middle school I attended grades 5-8 at because I had moved that year into a district that belonged to another school. I got to graduate with my friends — I’m spoiled!
Another valuable lesson that I’m forever grateful for was learning how to lift in high school. Coach K was my health teacher (and later field coach) who influenced me to not try out for basketball and to give shot-put a try. I become a gold medal winner for shot-put, javelin, and discus for the next four years.
And still until this day, both lessons speak volumes in my lifestyle.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello loves!
My name rhymes no matter how you pronounce it — Andrea Correa. A brand within itself!
Ever since I was a toddler, I loved dance, movies, and productions/events. My stepfather growing up always had a video camera recording me. That led me into studying Broadcasting & Digital Media and Journalism at Seton Hall University while simultaneously learning a third language — Spanish is my first, Italian my third.
As an independent young lady at a private catholic school, I also had to take on several jobs. I was a nanny, bartender, and a Spanish medical interpreter. I was able to learn and take on projects for TV & Film which increased my love for production even more and are still my hobbies today.
From there, I was able to distinguish that I wanted to start my own business and work for myself instead of a conglomerate company or corporation. I started off as a social media marketer with the company Market America | SHOP.com which I still work with today. Clients for parties led to online clients which led to referrals. Small businesses were and still are my top clients.
My personality and work ethic led me to numerous opportunities to work with major brands in different industries including Amazon, Barefoot, Coca-Cola, Driscoll’s, Dunkin’, NFL, and more. My businesses will come in the future so I can put all of my experiences and passions together.
As someone who grew up with technology and social media advancing, I’m proud of how far I’ve come socially, intellectually, and spiritually for me to be able to become a successful Latina business woman.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Trauma. How to stop lying because I was taught to be one by a great one. I could keep going. The backstory is my childhood.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Senior year of college I turned down a full time position to work for a TV network in order to pursue my own business. Don’t regret it a bit!
