We were lucky to catch up with Andrea Anderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Since i was a child I had the ability to draw and create things, I liked to build cardboard houses with shoe boxes and paint them, my parents bought me coloring books and some wood colors.
I have been in some art workshops since I was 8 years old and I never felt so comfortable doing something, as I grew older I began to delve deeper into the world of art and I met many talented people who opened the scene for me, between talks and fabulous anecdotes I decided to dedicate myself to art, I had everything to continue perfecting my technique.
Friendly artists from the region asked for my support to finish some of their works and with that I improved my skills and more ideas came to me, I continued creating my own works and experimenting with new materials and techniques.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In 2016 I started my own business, VACA Arte y Accesorios, that is where I decided to take advantage of my creations and start selling small illustrations, stickers and handmade products. I have dedicated a lot of time and effort to it. Social networks like Instagram have helped me a lot so that people know my work and thus send products to different parts of Mexico and the United States.
Each project requires a lot of discipline and dedication, giving the best of oneself and making many mistakes in order to be better each time.
The truth is that I am very proud of myself for the simple fact of having decided to take the risk of doing something on my own and being financially independent. Art is a path with many obstacles, but with love, perseverance and discipline you can get where you want.
I have been open to collaborations with brands and different businesses, they are challenges that I enjoy and they leave a lot of learning.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I really like watching videos and taking financial education courses. Having an artistic ability is very good, but in order to dedicate yourself to that, you have to know how to organize your goals and how to achieve them.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Yes, when I was at university I was invited to participate in an entrepreneurship contest, I hadn’t taken much importance to it but in the end I decided to take my creations to the contest, I had few things, including some paintings and stickers, that day I won second place as best entrepreneurial project and they gave me money as a prize, I felt very proud of myself and motivated me more to continue dedicating myself to art. I learned that I can work on what I love and enjoy the most to be able to enjoy even more
