We recently connected with Andrea Alorro and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I have always felt passionate about healthcare and beauty -that’s what brought me to the field of plastic surgery nursing. A trajectory moment in my post operative career actually took place at a local surgical center, when what supposed to be a regular surgery pick almost turned tragic. I arrived as I usually do prepared to do a quick assessment on my patient prior to taking her home. As the patient was brought out to me I could see there was something seriously wrong. I went back and forth a few times with the surgical center staff asking for them to please help stabilize her and I received no assistance. The anesthesiologist came out and kept repeating that she was ok and gaslighting me to believe I was wrong with my assessment. Despite this doctors instructions,I decided to rush this patient to the hospital for additional tests and what I felt may be critical help. By the time we arrived at the hospital the patient was barely conscious. She was rushed into what’s called a “code room” and received 2 blood transfusion within moments. Her blood levels were so critically low that a few more hours could have cost her her life. It was at this moment I realized that we were no longer just a luxury home health service we are a medically necessary service. Vita plug nurses and skilled nursing assessments at the time of discharge are a critical need for safety after a elective procedure. Had this patient gone home to her husband or another caregiver, there is a large chance that she may not have made it. How could a untrained person identify the signs of distress when the doctors are saying everything was alright? The truth is many clinics are overbooked in Miami and unfortunately not all of them have the patients best interest at heart. Many patients will be discharged in a unstable state and their families or caregivers may not know something is wrong or know how to react. Quick identification of complications is imperative to safety and the integrity of the results. It was at this moment I realized our service is not something to just be a pampering and loving experience-which we do provide. However our service can be vital component of yours or a loved ones safety. This inspired me to want to expand our reach so that this doesn’t need to happen to anyone else. This was when the need to grow became personal for me.

Andrea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born into the beauty industry, I’m a daughter of 2 phenomenal hair dressers. I grew up in their salon and the energy was always so amazing. I feel like this energy became apart of my core belief and the foundation for our company, that when you look good you feel good. I loved watching the transformation when my parents clients would fall in love with themselves all over again when their hair service was finished. Once I became a nurse,I started working in the hospital. I became critical care certified and gained a ton of experience it was so rewarding. however I really missed the joy of the beauty industry. When I began working in plastics I was able to satisfy the best of both my worlds – medical and beauty. I loved to pre op the patients and be a part of the excitement before the surgery, I gained so much knowledge working in PACU and monitoring them until they were stable for discharge. It was amazing. There was just a gap that was missing and the families often seemed overwhelmed as to what happens next. Vita plug was developed to close this gap. We bring everything medical or beauty related directly to your location. We offer skilled nursing care, iv therapy, body contouring treatment, post op massages, lymphatic massages, wound care, and much more.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We have a very strict policy and standard that we call our culture of care. I train my staff that there position is not just to be of service to the patients but they are to practice that same love and patience and caring attitude with their interactions with each other. We have a zero tolerance policy for gossiping or anything that breeds for a toxic work environment. I feel like this is so important because so often spend more time with each other than we do with our families and I want to make sure all of my employees are always mentally healthy and emotionally taken care of. I believe that when there is harmony and love within the company, ultimately it trickles down to the patient experience and that’s what makes our care so memorable.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my business has been by going above and beyond and focusing on the overall client experience and pushing in every way to exceed their expectationsZ We like to get to know each client so we can create a healing environment and care plan that is best for them. Not every recovery is the same, and we really strive to find all the little things that we can do to make you feel as special as possible while you are in our care. They never forget the details and our happy clients become the best marketing we can ask for. We get a ton of word of mouth referrals.
