We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea aka “Cherri” Dorsey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Andrea aka “Cherri”, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?

I strive to have a legacy as a woman with a powerful voice and passion for encouraging other women to love themselves exactly where they stand unapologetically. A woman who has changed the game and the way society views women with curves (plus-size). An advocate for self-love, body-positivity and a huge promoter of self-confidence. An example and a reminder to embrace the skin you’re in, sexuality and race.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The CEO and Designer of Cherri Cheeks SwimAttire, I specialize in creating innovative swimwear for full-figured women. I am known for being the “Swimsuitologist” as my specialty is looking at the figure of a women and styling her in swimwear that accents her physique.

The Cherri Cheeks brand designs swim attire to cater to the shape and curves of real women of the world not what society believes we should be or look like. We create full coverage styles that are still sexy, classy and accent what makes us curvy women so phenomenal.

I’m most proud of the feedback and smiles we receive when our clients experience Cherri Cheeks. It’s not just about our designs but the lives we’ve touched, and the confidence instilled in so many women that were once self-conscious, insecure, and ashamed of their figure. The testimonies and life changing experiences our customers have shared lets us know that we’re on the right track and making a difference for an arena of women that deserve to shine bright.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

Candace Sloan “Candi” is my best friend and business partner (B.O.O-Business Operations Officer – we jokingly created that title. The title was created as we hit the ground running after COVID doing pop-up shops on the weekends in backyards, parking lots venues, anywhere that was hosting an event for small business owners in Los Angeles and surrounding cities. Our teamwork, sales strategy and energy just work so well together. We’d sale so many swimsuits at the end of the day that we’d call each other the next morning in shock. Our clients love the vibe and love what we bring to the plus size community.

We met 5 years ago through a mutual friend at a BrunchCon event. We’ve been together traveling, laughing, brunching, creating magic and loving our connection ever since.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

These are more like life skill recourses that keep me balanced and stable through-out this journey.

• There are no mistakes, only learning lessons.

• If what you’re doing is something that you love, put your all into it.

• Stay out of your own way.

• What others think of you is none of your business.

• Not everyone will support you, so learn to support yourself, believe in you, and secure your own success.
