Andre, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
We take risks everyday wether we chose to believe it or not. Opening WhitingsMotors 2 years ago (this September) was that risk, Not knowing the first steps of ownership seemed like a daunting task. Everyday I woke not knowing what the day held or what hurdles I had to over come with the instructor being the lesson at hand.
I told myself you have 2 choices First choice was to continue down this path that few have traveled, The second was to turn around go back to that in which I despised out of fear or not knowing!
You see it’s the fear of not knowing that hinders us from our best potential, in other words it’s not having the FAITH THE SIZE OF A MUSTARD SEED.
Starting this dealership was not an easy task by any means remember I said it was the instructor called lesson that taught me, everyday there was something els that was needed that I had no knowledge of. Not having the correct knowledge can hinder the process but it doesn’t mean it will stop the process. It was the rejections that allowed me to understand the different processes and the different language that’s to be spoken in different environments. ” Not everything is a lost , however they are LESSONS.” Once I changed my mindset from losses to lessons I was able to navigate through the jitters of a start up.
The day I was awarded my dealers License I told myself this was just the beginning and the task at hand wasn’t complete just simple a ink drop in a massive notebook called life.
Fast forward 2 years later and we have learned so much and still there is so much to learn, we have not satisfied our goals that we set forth, we have been able to secure our finance license which allows us to further more help our clients with high quality vehicle for great prices.
The risk was having the faith to believe in myself that I can change my families destiny by having the courage to learn
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started Whitings Motors to provide a service to the community, we are a boutique style car dealership where we treat all our clients like family. Our specialty is giving time back to our clients with a personalize car shopping experience. We shop for you, we go through thousands of vehicles nationwide based off a criteria the client created such as price, car payment, features etc. We will send every vehicle choice to the client based on their request ( email or text) this includes auto check which provides a full vehicle history report on all vehicles allowing us to make the best vehicle choice.
Here at Whitings Motors we hang our hats on customer service, servicing our clients provides us with a feeling that’s unexplainable seeing them drive off with a huge smile. Time effort dedication is what sets us apart from other dealers, here at Whitings Motors its our owner who will answer calls text messages and he will even deliver the vehicle to your home, he goes above and beyond for his clients .
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Its not a lesson but a mindset that had to be broken! My Pastor Wendell Hutchins II said to me that it’s ok for me to be wealthy, its ok for me to have those things that I should have, Its ok why because GOD said I can. IF I BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS I WILL CROSS OVER TO LAND FULL OF MILK AND HONEY but I have to be strong and courageous and follow the plan not leaning to the left or the right but being reminded of the plan.(Joshua ch 1) Whats the plan to provide a service to the community, yes and while trying to implement that plan there will be all types of red tape and road blocks trying to distract you from this plan. These distractions and road blocks will make you feel like giving up and throwing in the towel. It’s at that moment you must realize that these are nothing but lessons that was taught over the years and if you change a mindset then you can change a generation.
This learned lesson was given to me in a poverty mindset while being in an environment that was a reflection of this mindset believing I will never have more that what I see in front of me.
It’s breaking that mentality the unlearning of a trait that produces the exact same results, some would say breaking a habit but I’m going to call it just what it is letting go of that slave mentality.
I had to realize I have the exact same capabilities as the next man to further my dream the only thing between them and me is movement and that was the same thing with Joshua he moved based off his conversation with God, we pray daily and everyday he tells us to move but somehow we remain in the same spot year after year and wonder why our life hasnt change simple due to movement , move your mind from the thoughts of yesterday and seek that which is new.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of Mouth has been the best tool to source new clients for me, I have invested embroidered shirts and I have t shirts for the weekend so I am always wearing my logo which promotes the brand and it gets new clients asking what I do. Always keep cards on hand I randomly air drop my website to clients while In the grocery store or any public place where there will be a large gathering of people.
