We recently connected with Andre Van Lun and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
The kindest thing that someone has ever done for me was to adopt my brother and I when I was 8 years old. My brother and I were in 7 foster homes and 2 group homes. I endured a lot of abuse and all grown-ups that I knew in life broke promises to me. I believe that the stability afforded me, by being adopted, has lead to me not only having a career where I am considered one of the best in the world, but I also now have a family of my own. This is my wildest dream come true! Our family values are kindness, love, personal development, and embracing abundance.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Self-mastery and leadership coach. I help people unlock dormant potentials within themselves body, mind, and soul. If a person wants to become fit, earn more money, be a better parent, or maintain meaningful relationships. I help people become the version of themselves that matches what is most important to them. The work I do is 50% mind and heart-based, 30% nutrition, and 20% strategy and action.
I work with people 1 on 1 or in groups to find purpose while living lives of harmony. I have also written 4 books and created numerous courses that help people to tap into the best versions of themselves. After working with thousands of bodies and minds on four continents I have come to know that true transformation, is accessed by doing the tough mental and spiritual work. I have helped people to be able to do the hard-for-them things that transform their lives in every way.
I have helped people become fit and healthy. We add structures and practices to life that make success inevitable. One client lost over one hundred pounds in a year working with me. I have helped inspire people to travel and live into bigger existences. I have had two clients move abroad to live and work in paradise. The work I do around healing and spiritual principles has helped people to start businesses and excel in their careers financially. I have helped people who were successful in one area of life transfer that drive and internal balief into areas of historical struggle.
I have helped executives and celebrities define what new purpose looks like to them, and better navigate life and relationships with new clarity. My company “A Vision Lived” helps eliminate that feeling of emptiness, and being stuck in areas of life that matter to them the most. I have worked in personal development for the last twenty-seven years. I am a product of it myself. I carved out a protocol that transforms lives.
My six-step process called “Genuine Living” consists of: GETTING REAL becoming more Self Aware, ERASING trauma, shame, and emotional fallout from life. DECLARING what the 2.0 version of you will be and what your new purpose looks like. ACTION-taking that is divine in origin and is the “right” action. CELEBRATION of new results and BOUNCING BACK from setbacks. This work results in recognizing and realizing the true desires and practices that fortify greatness, even while living in a world of chaos and distraction.
I want everyone to know that settling for a life that is not as you intentionally desire it, or better, is optional. You can one hundred percent live into a vision of life that fills you with purpose, and thrills and excites you. Almost any vision that you create for you can be made real. We are created to defy the limitations that reality and circumstance has set.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Initially, when I started my business I was in college. I had a full course load. I was earning clients from working at my corporate internship. They did not want to work out with their colleagues. I was nineteen and had a difficult time securing a lease at a nearby gym in New York City. I must have gone to 12 different locations until I found a spot that I could rent to train clients midday and in the late evenings. I finally secured a deal with a gym owner near to my internship in NYC. A single day started at 4:45 AM for me and I arrived to my first class at 8:15 AM. I walked about a two miles through snow and ice sometimes, to get to the train station. That train got me to Newark then I had to take another bus to upper Montclair. After that, I used a shuttle to get onto campus. I would take classes until 3:45 PM and then take a bus into the city for my internship. Then I would walk about 10 city blocks to the gym to train after my internship was done at 8:00 PM. I would work with my clients until 10PM and then get home to New Jersey at 11:00 PM-11:30 PM and repeat. I did this routine 3-4 days a week for a year to build up my own independent clientele in NYC. I eventually got a client who wanted in-home services and my entire mobile fitness business took off! That foray into high-end mobile fitness has led me to where I am today,. Quite a few pivots and over 25yrs later, I am coaching not only bodies but minds, as well, both virtually and in person.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
What has made me as successful as I have been in my field is knowing people. Studying humans as a child in the NYC subway system and speaking with tens of thousands of people doing what I do has given me some great perspective. As a foster kid bouncing from home to home, I got to live in multiple families and was exposed to 5 different religions before age eight. Since I was a child I was very in tune with human emotion and being able to read the unsaid. In business, I have been able to anticipate needs. I have also been able to find solutions for people that were refined and customized. Listening to people speak and hearing them deeply, helped me to craft an unmatched client experience. As a Self-mastery and leadership coach who develops themselves continuously, on many different levels, I pass so much onto my clients. Personal development not only saved my life, but it forged me my purpose.
