Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andre Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Andre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents raised me with values and morals and expressed to me diligently that I could do anything thing I wanted in life as long as I put God first and the hard work to follow. They taught me that consistency was the key to learning and honing any craft. Show taught me that success didn’t come easy but I would have to earn it. Respect others and to always use what ever platform I am given to uplift Gods name. I have benefited. And so far a friend of mine, Michael Steven Paul also known as Mickeyjay has done the nicest thing for me in him believing in me and giving me a shot at my dream. Bring an all around entertainer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Have you ever had to pivot?
There was a time in my life where I was trying to follow my dreams but alcoholism got in the way. Well, what I am trying to say is that I chose to put it in the way. I was younger and striving toward success but I began to over do it and drink too much and always at the wrong times. During performances. Video shoots. I drank myself into a situation where I always felt I needed to drink before everything I did. So on May 3rd 2011 I checked myself into a Veterans Hospital in Tuscaloosa Alabama and got treatment for it and I haven’t had a drink since that day. I am a member of an anonymous group who helps me to maintain my sobriety and continues to teach me how to live clean and sober. Again, Gods Grace held me down and once I rejected the drink and accepted God into my life I began to flourish in my career. I definitely had to pivot in order to be able to answer these questions today. I am grateful.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build my reputation in my market is that I clearly am myself in all aspects. That is very important for people to see the real me so that even when they see my out in public they will trust me to be myself. Being myself has shown me that people really do like me for who I am but if I weren’t being myself then they would be liking the wrong person and the truth would eventually come out. Cannot pretend forever, so just easier to be myself and that is what my brand has been built on
