We recently connected with Andre Russell and have shared our conversation below.
Andre, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To become successful one must determine what success is to themselves and renew their minds to achieve success. Before I started my company I had to see it first and create the mental picture of what it would do to benefit the world. The next thing is to understand that it will come with its up’s and downs and I must stay consistent on the mission ahead. I would go and hand to hand my products and try and put a lasting memory in every potential client that I met and after a while it became very draining. I was uptown Charlotte, North Carolina and I took a seat on the outside bench of a coffee shop and I thought about how would I be able to increase my sales and awareness without having to physically work so hard. I remember hearing the Phrase Collaboration over Competition and thought how can I link up with those in my industries like barbers could benefit from my products and I benefit from the brand awareness from the clients they serve.

Andre, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in NJ, and relocated to North Carolina when I turned 20 so I could attend Winston Salem State university. I majored in Rehabilitation studies so I intended to be physical and mental rehabilitation specialist and I just wanted to help people and make life easier for those I came in contact with it. I graduated college and decided to start a service business to help youth develop their social and personal development the company name was Future Endeavors. That company lasted for 5 year then I relocated to Charlotte, and decided I need to start a business that included products so I have representation of my brand in different places without having to physically be there. I am most proud of having 30 locations carrying my Royal Oils Grooming products and we have been expanding rapidly over the last 3 years.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the hustle mentality and implement the business mind. I realized that the hustler mentality was short thinking it was the get enough to do it again tomorrow mindset. The business mind is how to expand through implementation of system and team work.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I used money saved from my first business and a part time Job I had working at the airport. I used that capital to purchase ingredients and took off from there
