We were lucky to catch up with Andre Rice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
I believe some of the biggest trends that I’m seeing in the industry is diversity amongst models in the industry. Seeing more everyday people being presented on billboards, television, and magazines is really important for representation that all models should be on television and all media platforms.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a male model from Detroit, MI. I began modeling at age 18, when local clothing line Detroit Luxury messaged me on Instagram to model for their clothing company. I then began modeling/collaborating with local photographers, designers, make up artist, stylist, etc. around the Metro Detroit area, Chicago, LA, Miami, etc to extend my portfolio in hopes of being signed by a major modeling agency. I have dreams of being a full time traveling model and working with top designers around the world like Balmain, Balenciaga, Tom Ford, and Calvin Klein to name a few. I want to be able to impact lives and motivate other models around the world to strive for their goals so that they’ll be able to see my story and know that they’ll be to make their dreams come true as well.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I began modeling at age 18 and I began developing and extensive portfolio with photographers, designers, make up artists, and etc. At the age of 23 I decided to move to Chicago to further my modeling career. I began networking with other models, designers, make up artists around the Chicago area to extend my portfolio and social media following. I would say some advice I would give to other models as a model you would want to move to a major city to further your modeling career where there are going to be major modeling companies.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say the most effective strategy for a male model at this day in age for growing your clientele would be social media. I use social media to grow my audience and extend my following to be able to network with other models. Also to have the world at the palm of your hands to be able to reach other creatives around the world.
