We were lucky to catch up with Andre Neptune recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Initially, I learned editing through YouTube tutorials when it came to specific techniques and how-to effects. I also would watch content from more experienced editors at the time and try to emulate their style but twist it in my own way. Knowing what I know now, I felt like I should have spent more time on the fundamentals of using specific software and gained more knowledge on how to navigate the interface before trying to figure out my editing style. In addition, I should have invested more time on getting familiar with more professional and up to date software such as After Effects at an earlier stage in my journey.
When it comes to the editing process, it is essential to have a clear direction of how you want your creation to come into fruition. Also, organization is a key factor in having a productive workflow. Making sure your files are easy to locate and having proper labeling for files will save you a lot of time in your process. With adversity comes growth, I ran into many obstacles and roadblocks when trying to become a better creator. One of these obstacles was not having the right computer after I started becoming better and wanting to use more effects and plugins that required a lot of processing power. My laptop at the time did not have the capacity to smoothly run my projects in the creation process ultimately forcing me to upgrade my computer.

Andre, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who are unfamiliar with me, my name is Andre Neptune and I am the creator, owner and operator of Neptunez Wave. The genesis of my content creation journey was introduced by the app Vine. I was a huge anime enthusiast and a connoisseur of good music. I would search for my favorite scenes and fights from anime and mash them together with music I like that would also be appropriate for the clips I used. The music complements the visuals which creates more of a resonating impact for viewers.
Naturally, I have a good eye for aesthetics and I know what is required to maintain the viewers attention. In addition to my niche with anime music videos (AMVs), I am a versatile creator who does videography & photography. Whether its capturing all the wonderful moments of a Bride and Groom’s special day, producing recap videos of parties and events, or editing and producing content for vlogs.
I am most proud of my development and growth from where I started. I could have stayed comfortable and never ventured out to using more advanced software but instead I challenged myself and broke the limit to my abilities to produce more quality content. I take pride in my work because of the time and effort I spent to reach a higher level content creation. When I have a vision for something I want to create there is nothing in my way that can stop me from achieving it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is receiving the love and feedback I receive from clients and watchers of my content. It is very satisfying hearing what favorite parts and scenes they liked from my creations. In addition, I love experiencing watching others watch my art and getting their initial reactions.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
In my experience, non-creatives tend to feel as if my work isn’t substantial or tangible. They often view my craft as entertainment and not a viable business. Moving forward, I would encourage non-creatives to be more open minded with accepting creative content as a valuable business contribution. For an example there is a business need for creative content in all fields. Creative content draws in potential customers by the masses.
