We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andre Kelton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andre, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Well, I’ve always been a reader for as long as I can remember. I spent time in the book retail business and one of the things I missed after the store closed, was the conversations that took place around books. So I wanted to try and recreate a little bit of that through Instagram.

Andre, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, I simply write short reviews of the books that I’ve read. I share my ideas of these books and hope that it may spark and inspire someone to follow my suggestions. Books like no other medium have the ability to change lives and move people to action

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One goal is perhaps one day move beyond Instagram and Goodreads and establish a national magazine following or major newspaper. There needs to be more popular treatment of books as an entertainment option

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
As, this is not a revenue generating endeavor, I don’t have any business struggle stories. I started sharing reviews on Goodreads and gained some traction and was encouraged to put the reviews on IG.
