We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrayah Ponce a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Andrayah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I choose to cater to the curly and coily haired communities because I understand the struggle of finding a stylist that could provide the care my curly crown required. My goal is to be that stylist for any man or woman ready to enhance and embrace their curly and coily crowns.

Andrayah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Growing up there was very limited resources available that catered to curly hair individuals. At the time Society was pushing hair straighteners everywhere you turned. I began to pay more attention to myself and my hair around middle school age and I noticed my hair did not look like what society deemed beautiful at the time. I began to feel subconscious about my appearance and my self esteem took a hit at such a critical time in a young girls life. I eventually began straightening my hair and that remained my go too for a long time. As I began pursuing a career in cosmetology, I would meet many women with beautiful curls who shared similar experiences. It made me realize that I was doing a disservice to myself. As I began to learn more and experimenting with my own hair, I found myself. I realized that I wanted to help women similar to me see the beauty and the power in our curly crowns!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Geometry Curly Hair Studio is the only Salon in the triangle providing color, cutting, and education to curly clients exclusively. By solely focusing on curly hair we are able to master our craft and provide a customized experience for all of our clients. We work with clients that are committed to improving the health and appearance of their curls, as most of our clients wear their hair curly 95% of the time. Hair health is our #1 priority-we provide proof of our working hair care strategies by documenting our clients hair journeys overtime and showcasing our work on all textures of curly hair. Our team of stylists are passionate about their craft and take pride in our work. We strive to give the best care to our clients and we are able to do that by investing into the latest trainings- because of that we are able to provide educational services to our clients so they can properly care for their curls outside of the salon.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

Social media- Instagram specifically. The majority of our clientele find us via instagram: @geometry.curly hair.studio. Social media has allowed us to introduce ourselves to potential clients and gives us an opportunity to showcase our existing clients. That way new and potential clients can see how existing clients are benefiting from our services. It is important for new clients to see curl transformations they can relate to. Most importantly, social media has allowed Geometry to reach a larger audience. It is truly a blessing to get clients from all over the United States come get the Geometry Curly Hair experience.
