We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andi Telker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest business risk I have ever taken was starting KC Home Report. I’m not talking about the *awesome* Instagram page that I run, but the business itself. I networked like crazy with all of the builders in Kansas City and developed relationships that lead me to where I am today. My secret? I asked all the questions and truly listened to the answers so I could learn!
Andi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My husband and I had the home we live in built and I learned a tremendous amount while that process happened, or so I thought. I started my Instagram, KC Home Report, to share everything. My hopes was for people to learn from mistakes of ours and know they could build a home too. My social media presence lead me to a sales interview which then started relationships with builders. I then have been hired on for multiple roles with builders learning an incredible amount of information about building. From there I got my real estate license and decided it was time to start representing buyers and making sure they are having the best process possible.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I have to continue to get creative when showing people the idea of new construction. Right now, most home owners are sitting at a 2-4% interest rate on their current home. I am literally asking them to leave that and spend more money with a higher rate. How? Well, as we all know, you can always refinance and if you find something that works for your family, the time is now to act.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I have had my instagram long enough, that not many people were sharing houses on social media, meaning I was one of the few/rare ones out there. I had to get over showing my face on camera and decided if what I am saying is important enough (spoiler alert, I give away a ton of free resources) that no one cares how I look that day, they only care to understand what I am saying.
