Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andi Schilawski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Andi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
I want to grow my company because I have other goals in life, I want to start and grow a foundation where I can provide funds to non profits and help people in need, doing my part in this world. I can’t do that if I have no income and no time, so growing a successful company is my main goal for the next 5 years. With a team of professional people who truly care about the services we provide and the people we provide it for.I am still on the thick of it. Trying to grow a company I truly believe in and in the quality of services we provide, I want to be able to offer the same amazing experience whether a client books with me directly or with someone else from our team.
When we train our planners, the first thing I always say is that no matter what, we are here to serve our couples, the way we project ourselves, showing them how much we care and making them feel like they are our only clients is our mission. We don’t want our clients to say at the end of the road that it was a “good” experience, we want them to say it was an “amazing” one as they will be our best referral point in the future.
We do periodic check ins with our planners to ensure the process with our clients is going smoothly and that they are getting the support they need and deserve.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am originally from Venezuela where I graduated college with a degree in Graphic Design, hence why my passion is designing weddings from the ground up. I love traveling, meeting people, eating desserts, obsessed with animals and all things pretty!
I always knew I wanted to be a wedding planner. The road to finally be able to open my own company and dedicate my time to this was not easy and I had to go through a lot of challenges, but they were all worth it and I believe each challenge taught me a different skill that I implement every day in my career.
I am most proud of the company I have built and the team we now have. Never in my wildest dreams I imagined that before 40 years old, I would have 2 businesses, a team of amazing planners and working on the path for my main company to run itself! I always thought that if I ever became a wedding planner, I would just do it as a part time gig, running just a handful of weddings per year.
Now, we book approximately 30-35 clients per year and have a part-time project manager, a social media manager, and 5 other planners/coordinators that we have trained and are part of our team! It just blows my mind.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We love our clients, and value their feedback. What has set us apart from other planners are the amazing reviews our past clients have left us online. It helped me build my portfolio and credibility online and offline.
Networking is also a huge part of our marketing efforts. We love working as a team and value the effort our “friendors” as we call them, make in each and every wedding. We created a network of trusted professionals and treat ourselves as friends more than just “coworkers”. Community over competition all the way!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Trust and over communicate! Past experiences have shown me that we need to take more time to bring in any new member of our team. We don’t add just anyone (and for a good reason). Trust is mutual as well as respect. Over communicate on everything and anything. We have found that it’s better to repeat than not say anything at all assuming the other person will be able to read our minds. Each member of our team must fully understand and follow our core values.
