We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andee Del Orbe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Andee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe to be successful you need to meet the universe half way. Whether that looks like getting up every day at a certain time to get your goals done. But putting time into the things that can get you to where you want to be, that way the universe knows that your serious about your success.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Andee Del Orbe is the founder and visionary behind “Dame Luz Podcast,” a platform dedicated to fostering conversations about important topics and raising awareness. In addition to “Dame Luz Podcast,” Andee has also integrated her work with “Nostalgic Films,” a collaborative venture involved in the production and editing of various types of content, such as movies, shorts, music videos, and photography. We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In the face of a challenging year in 2023 that felt like a mental prison, I demonstrated resilience by persistently fighting to break free from the struggles I faced from grieving to facing betrayal. By meeting the universe halfway, I gradually witnessed positive changes unfold in my life. While one aspect of my world seemed to be falling apart, unbeknownst to me, another part was falling into place.
Unexpectedly, I ventured into the realm of music as a Dominican Dembow Artist, despite never having rapped before or considering myself capable of rapping. The Dembow genre became a therapeutic outlet, helping me cope with the pain. Transforming my experiences into art became a coping mechanism, especially during times of trauma. I channeled the depths of betrayal into a feature film that I wrote in just four days, a process that would of taken me three days if I didn’t have to work twice during the writing process.
Currently, I am immersed in the exciting project of shooting a Mock Trailer, eager to showcase to others the transformative power of turning pain into art. Through my journey, I’ve not only discovered my ability to overcome challenges but also found a creative outlet that allows me to express and share the profound impact of my experiences with the world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I needed to unlearn doubt and shame. I learned that it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to say “Im not okay, but I will be”. For a long time I would lie to people and tell them I was okay when clearly I wasn’t. I would be hard on myself for crying, or letting things get to me, because I’m emotional. I am learning to let myself cry because yes I’m hurt, sad and yes all that sucked. But what counts is what I do with it. Do I just let what sucked and happen ruin or take over my life. Or do I use it to learn from it and turn it into history “ART”. No matter the backstory I learned a lesson I’ll never let anyone have to teach me again because I chose me now in everything.
