We were lucky to catch up with Anchandria Collins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anchandria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
The best investment I made was investing in myself. I have always gave so much of my time to working for other people and I was never satisfied. I was missing out on my kids growing up, due to me having to go and help build someone else dream that didn’t know me or my kids and didn’t know how important me being a part of their lives was. Being real I felt I shouldn’t have to ask for permission to take care of my God given responsibilities. I started realizing how important my work ethic and value was to companies I worked for. I was overlooking my own potential on making my own dreams come true. I worked as receptionist for years in a tax business and learned everything about preparing taxes and running a business. A environment was created for me to learn and ask questions when needed. So, at the end of 2021 I decided that I wanted to give myself a try. I talked to my husband about wanting to start our own tax business and he didn’t second guess it all he said was ” What do you need to do to get started?” I found a office and we rented it, then we got it furnished and got the proper paperwork needed to open up and I got scared LOL the first year I didn’t do anything with the office I started making excuses because I was scared being honest I started thinking about the negative things that could go wrong. So, when it was time to renew the lease I told my husband let’s just let it go and open back when we was ready. He straight up told me “No, it will work out” LOL. So now I’m like Ok you got to do something, so now tax season is like 2months away and here I am pushing to get everything in order so I can at least be prepared to file taxes when January hit, I would figure the rest out when it was time. So, now here I was ready to prepare taxes and I had to find clients. I had 7 clients that trusted me and I am forever grateful for them. This just made me realize I don’t think they realize how they changed my life I will be sending them a appreciation gift card this year. So, now here I am year 2 in filing taxes and our clientele has tripled and its still the beginning of tax season and also, creating something our children can always be a part of. So the lesson I learned was never be afraid to bet on yourself it’s a decision you will never regret.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I enjoy spending time with my family, nature, reading, writing, motivating & encouraging others to believing in themselves and building our legacy for children and generations to come. Our goal is to create wealth. Problems I solve for my clients is preparing and filing their taxes, I also, help our clients get on track with starting their own business and credit assistance. What I am most proud of is I took the first step and got started, I realized getting started is the hardest step. Once you take the first step I guarantee you will figure the rest out along the way. I am still learning and figuring it out. What I want my current clients to know is that I appreciate them and here to help them in any way I can and what I want potential clients to know is that I am genuine, qualified in preparing individual and business tax and truly here to help and here to assist you along the way of believing in yourself.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I had to unlearn was what people think about me. I use to be someone that cared about the opinions of others. I am not sure when in my life I started caring what others think if me because when I was young adult I lived a carefree life literally. Opinions meant nothing to me. Maybe as I started getting older and having responsibilities people pleasing could have taken place in between. When I was ready to follow my own dreams I realized fear and people pleasing was my biggest set back. I had to unlearn that people opinions didn’t matter in my life. A quote I love to keep in my mind is “What other people think and say about you is none of your business.” People can only speak from a perspective of their own lives.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my business partner, Fredreco, in high school. He has been my biggest supporter during this whole journey. Not only is he my business partner, he is my husband and the father to our children. We first laid eyes on each other in middle school and gave it a try in high school. When I doubted myself he was always there to remind me of my strength. We have a balance in life and in our business so it has made everything we do become a success. To be able to be in business with my husband is such a honor we are able to be each others biggest supporter as well as accountability partner.
