Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anastasia Sergeeva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anastasia, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As a child I was trying all kind of activities, dancing, swimming, music, but I finally stopped the search when I went to art school for painting. I felt like I can finally concentrate and get lost in it.
To get more specific, I knew I wanted not just to do art, but art for film.
Whenever I would read Russian classical literature, the authors would spent pages on interior/exterior descriptions to create a mood. At some point I thought it would be cool to make these descriptions come to live, create the art behind characters. That’s how I knew what I wanted to do for living.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im originally from Vladivostok, Russia. I moved to Vietnam in 2007 to go to school, there I worked on my first film and had a more clear picture of my future. I moved to the United States in 2009 and went to San Francisco State University to pursue a major in production design and scenic painting for theater. I’ve been painting on movies and tv series since 2015. I was fortunate to paint Disney Galaxy Edge and lead at the Universal Super Mario.
I’m a union scenic artist and assistant art director. I designed couple of films and directed a few shorts. I was fortunate to get in with one of my films to the official Cannes Film Festival and travelled there during Covid to showcase it.
I also commission paintings, collaborate with various artists, and paint murals for businesses and private clients.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Take us serious. Respect us and understand our importance and value. Think about what world be like without art that you consume and use everyday. Pay us in respectful amounts and on time for our skill and craftsmanship.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think if art has huge impact on how I feel, can teach me, or change my opinion on something or someone, I want to provide the same service for others. I believe that art is very healing and uniting. This is how we connect as humans through feelings and experiences. It is the power of storytelling.
