Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anastacia Diaz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anastacia, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters from the very start and I’m am so grateful for them throughout my journey because I know of so many people who don’t get to have that type of support system during their decision to get a career in the art field. I vividly remember when I was in high school my parents had gone into a parent teacher conference and a teacher had brought up the fact that I wanted a future in Art ; at this point in time I wasn’t even sure what specifically but I knew I needed to be in a creative field; the teacher definitely disapproved and was very skeptical of this career path, she had gone to an art school prior, when brought up to my parents they told her that if this was what I wanted to do that they would support me 100% and believed in my abilities. They always made an effort to support my creative endeavors they would come to my school art shows, theater performances, place me in classes to refine my skill, and made sure I was always practicing so I could improve, because if this was what I wanted to do they always tried to make sure I had gotten a head start. My parent have done so much in life to push me on to my path and that has been my driving force me want to put in even more of an effort on the road to success.
Anastacia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! For those who don’t know me I am Anastacia Diaz I am a Sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design and I am a creative but more specifically a fashion designer. I initially go into fashion design around the age 12 years old. Sewing was just a hobby I had agree to doing to have more time to hang out with my best friend, due to the fact that we had moved towns away from each other and never met up much. The plan was to be able to meet up once a week instead of once a month but when the time had come to start actually going to these classes she was never there turns out we had picked two different class times. I was super bummed and didn’t even really want to go but the instructor was so sweet and after my first class I learned I really liked drawing clothes. I returned to Karens School of Fashion (the location of the sewing classes) every week and although I didn’t make any friends through it I did find a new passion that put my drawing skills into something new that I never thought they could be used for. I feel all of my work is all over the place in the aspect of aesthetics but I feel as I grow and get older I’m slowly starting to understand that I don’t need to be stuck in any sort of box the use of color has been really exciting to me recently and I think it’s definitely something that differentiates me from others. I would like to let potential clients and followers know that I am in a continuous stage of growth and finding my style and all of my work will be experimental and ever changing till I’m well into my adult years of life.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I feel like non-creative believe creativity is a talent but I don’t think that is true. I feel like saying everything one person has worked for as a talent almost discredits all of the hard work they’ve put into their craft. I see all creative works as a skill, people put in tons of time and effort into project practicing and repeating these learned skills over and over again until they have reached their own level of “perfection”.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My particularly biggest goal is to be able to style a vogue editorial shoot. But I like to create more short term goals to push me towards that bigger goal. My latest goal that I achieved was to style for a photo shoot. This goal was achieved October 1st with the amazing Kemi (aka @ladyonfillm) on instagram) where I was given the honor of styling a very fairy-like shoot. My upcoming goal is to creative direct my own shoot.
