We were lucky to catch up with Anasiah Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Anasiah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
So back in 2021, me and my young daughter Autumn at that time she was 6 had decided to do something fun & unique together. The idea that we came up with was to hand make lip gloss & sell it. That was something we did to spend time together due to me having to work a 9-5 from Monday through Friday. This was something that I decided to do to also raise more money to be able to take her to Disney World for her birthday which was successful. At first we called the hobby “Glossy Lips By Autumn.” Since we were just strictly working on lip gloss we needed a name to make the lip gloss stand out and to make the image of it pop. We all know that whenever lip gloss is applied to the lips it makes the lips GLOSSY; but I also wanted to put Autumn’s name with it because this is what she wanted and we wanted our glossy lip babes to know that the lip gloss was not only for grown ups but for the kids as well. Skip to 2022, I needed and wanted to revamp the business and take it very serious. Once that happened we started adding more products and getting more orders, when this happened it wasn’t just strictly lip care products we were selling… body care products were added as well. So I changed the name to something that would describe our whole business and our products instead of just one single product, that’s when I chose “Glossy By Autumn”. I am running a business with my now 8 year old daughter, I’m teaching her all about entrepreneurship, customer service, products, and etc.
Anasiah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Anasiah Clark and I am an entrepreneur that focus on lip care & skin care products for everyone out there. I have been in the industry for two years now, the business starting getting more image and sales back in 2022. I got into the industry by finding a hobby for me and my daughter Autumn to do.. that hobby then turned into a side hustle, and then it became a small business from the side hustle that is continually growing each and everyday. After I quit my 9-5 this business became full time for me. This is actually one thing that I am at peace with and I do not regret doing.
As far as discipline when it comes to a business there are times where I do have to miss out on doing fun things in order to get more products out. I’m not sure if I would call this discipline or not but I also write down my goals each month on what I need to do, and something to keep me up on my toes as needed. There was one point of time where I spent money only on products, of course all of my priorities was taken care of but I had to set my wants to the side in order to keep my business up and running.
The products that we have are lip care: lip gloss, lip scrub, lip oil, and soon to be lip chap…. The body products are: body butter, body oil, body scrub, and room and linen sprays.
I really haven’t ran across any problems from customers, but at times I do show appreciation to them.. sometimes I do giveaways, and place freebie items with an order.. on my Etsy store some people can qualify for free shipping it just depends on how much money is spent.
I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic, my determination, and my strive to being successful. You don’t see many people running a small business with their child(ren).
I am most proud of me taking the leap of faith to make this happen. I was honestly scared after I quit my full time job to focus on the small business, I kept wondering if this would be the right thing to do. I am also proud about Autumn learning about the business industry at such a young age too. I want our customers to know that we work so hard to bring in the most high quality products for them. We love working and getting new customers from all over the world, most of our customers have turned into friends.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We keep up with our customers by simply messaging them. A lot of my customers use my Etsy store so we are able to send them a message on Etsy.. our other customers use our business pages on Facebook & Instagram as well so I keep in touch with them as well by using social media.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The best way to build an audience on social is to first post your products on your personal page.. so the people that is on your personal page actually knows what’s going on and what direction you are headed. Once you do that and each day you post you will get more and more interactions and feedback. Then your next step is a business page on social media. Those people on your personal page will more than likely follow your business page.. you then invite more and more people to follow your business page.. You have to be consistent with posting on social media.. you can also post products on both your personal business page, they said it’s best to keep them separate but for me it works out perfectly fine.!
