We were lucky to catch up with Anasiah Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anasiah , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents have ALWAYS been motivators. I was always told, if I wanted to do something always put my mind into it. Work hard for what you want, and it will all pay off at the end. My parents have always been hard workers, watching them as a young kid to me now being an adult is what pushes me the most. My parents are business owners as well, and have been for over a decade. Anytime that I will stress and doubt myself my mother will give advice, and/or tell me what I can do to make things smoother and better. My journey has really just started with entrepreneurship, and I can say with them help of them it makes it all better.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a young woman with a 7 year old daughter name Autumn. We stay in a small town called Charleston, MO. The easiest way to explain this is telling people that we are located between St. Louis, MO and Memphis, TN. I was in the medical field for 3 years until April 2022 when I decided to quit. I’ve been working since the age of 16 and one day I decided that it was time for a change. With the hours I was working I felt as if I didn’t have time for myself or my daughter. I wanted to become my OWN boss, and I knew that I could! Last year of April 2021 me and Autumn decided to do something different. We started selling and making lip gloss from our home. This was something to do together to bond as mother and daughter, but to also make more money so that I could make Autumn’s dream come true, which was taking her to Disney World to celebrate her 7th birthday which was accomplished. After her birthday I decided to stop with the lip gloss, I barely had time to make any due to my work schedule. Forward to January 2022, it was a new year and I had all kinds of positive thoughts running through my mind on how to do something. Lip gloss came back, so I got back into it. We had customers from everywhere purchasing it, and we had gotten a lot of good reviews. A few weeks later I wanted to add to it, we decided to make lip scrubs…. More weeks went back and body butters and bod scrubs were added. Our business was definitely increasing, and our name got out much more to the community and other surrounding areas. At that point I knew it was time for me to focus more on our business. Since I’ve quit my past job it was been an amazing process. We expand more and more and we don’t plan on stopping here at all. As of now like I mentioned we sell: lip gloss, lip scrubs, lip oil, body butter (men and women), and body scrubs. For my customers,
I always try to give back! I show them and let them know that I appreciate them for supporting Autumn & I. Without them there wouldn’t be “Glossy By Autumn” (The name of our business)
What sets me apart from others is my drive and motivation. Having a daughter as a business partner is something that I wouldn’t trade for the world. We learn from one another and definitely teach one another things every single day.
I am proud of the fact that I stepped out on faith to make this come true. It’s a blessing that I am able to show Autumn that as a female, you can put your mind to things and go out and get what you want without letting others tell you different. She’s learning at a young age, that she can be her OWN BOSS!
Main things that I want my customers and followers to know is that we of course love each and every one of them. From customers, to family, and to friends it really means a lot to us. For those that do not know, all of our products are made with NATURAL INGREDIENTS. We don’t focus on just one audience. We make sure that we take care of children, women, and men. We like to please everyone. One more thing I want to let everyone know is to continue to have faith and be motivated, don’t give up and definitely keep pushing as much as you can.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Honestly I will say that I’ve always been a shy person since I was a little kid. When we started this business I was always scared to post on social media about it. I was scared that no one would respond, reach out, and help get the word out about our business. You have to just go for it with positive thoughts. For those that are building on social media the main thing to do is PROMOTE! Promotion is the KEY, you may thing that people are watching but they definitely do! Post on your personal pages for people that’s on your friend list to look at, but also create a business page with it as well. Post as much as you can to keep your customers in the loop and updated with different things. I post on every social media platform. We’ve recently just made a a etsy store too, so that is another good thing.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is GREAT customer service. In order to run a business you have to have customer service, respect, and be willing to take feedback as well. First impression is always something that a person will not forget about. You only get ONE time to make a great first impression. I always tell my customers that I’m opened to all kinds of ideas.
