We recently connected with Anai Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Anai , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Believe it or not, pursing content creation looks different for every creator. There is no concise blueprint on how to get started and how to create a successful brand. When I decided to start my personal brand this year, I simply crafted content when I had time or when i felt led to do so. Knowing what I know now, I would start by creating a posting schedule. Scheduling your content will help you be consistent and give your audience a reason to come back to your platform. Some other skills that I still struggle with is time management. As a full-time government employee and mom, it can be hard to stay on top of my email. But missing emails means missing opportunities and partnerships. Always allocate time to during your day to check emails in order to maintain connections. Organizing the logistics of your brand will not only help you be a better creator, but will help you grow your brand more seamlessly.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well hello everyone! My name is Anai Johnson, a content creator based in Baltimore, MD. I create images and videos catering to being a mom in black and brown spaces. I enjoy posting about my life with my son Noah as it helps shed light on the luxuries of being a successful black woman in 2022. During the day I operate as a Public Health Analyst and in my off-time, my son and I enjoy fine dining, vacationing, shopping, and thrifting. The unique part about my platform is to show moms that they can create a luxury lifestyle affordably buy romanticizing the small things. That could look like budgeting to take your kids to a fancy restaurant once a month or showing your kids how to spot designer items at a thrift store.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to retire early and travel the world with my son Noah. Like most my mom was a single parent but, I was always amazed how many opportunities and fun experiences she exposed us to. We never lacked in having nice clothes, trying new restaurants, or not being able to go on vacation. She is my inspiration and I plan on carrying her legacy.
Have you ever had to pivot?
As much fun as it has been growing on social media, it has not been easy. Algorithms play a huge part in your success a creator; especially for black creators. However, I am a woman a faith. Knowing that I can do anything that I put my mind to keeps me going. Never be scared to pivot or adapt a new strategy. Due to the fact that my platform has plateaued on Instagram, I decided to expand my brand on Tiktok and Youtube. This was the best decision I made. I was ultimately able to create more free expose for myself and increase my visibility.
