Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ana Sofia Fehn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ana Sofia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue an artistic path from a very young age. From as early as I could walk, I loved to entertain. I would rehearse performances and cut out little tickets for my family members to attend my show. I’d spend hours watching my favorite actors, memorizing lines and mimicking their facial expressions. Once I found my way to a stage and the theater world, there was no doubt in my mind. I loved school and so many subjects, but no career was for me but acting. As I grew up, my passion for acting only increased, alongside my passion for cooking. My mentor introduced me to USC’s School of Dramatic Arts when I was 13, and from then on that was my dream school.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Costa Rican actress and content creator living in Los Angeles. I work in the professional acting world, as well as in the culinary space making cooking content on social media platforms. I grew up in a large family of seven kids, which played a pivotal role in my upbringing. Culturally, cooking is a large focus and something I did as early as I was able to be in the kitchen alongside my mother. My passion for acting existed as well for as long as I can remember, before I even understood what acting was. I started making content for social media towards the end of the COVID-19 lockdown. I meshed my passion for cooking with my love for music and performing. Although growing my page was a laborious and slow process at first, it has been a rewarding challenge and has allowed me to pursue my passions full-time. I am excited for the upcoming year and the many projects I’m working on, both on social media and on the screen.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I graduated from USC with two degrees, one in acting from the drama school, and one in political science with a pre-law focus. It was also 2020, when the world was shutting down. I had been worried about graduating without a secure job, so I had interned the summer before graduating at an investment firm. After the summer, I was offered a full time position as an analyst.
I had not studied finance in school, so I attended business school lectures and studied my friends notes for hours each day. I worked as an analyst for roughly two years, and in the meantime started posting cooking content on the side as a hobby. I was cooking all the time, so I figured why not post it? It took several months before my page started doing somewhat well, but eventually it did well enough to quit my finance job and work as a creative full time.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience through sheer consistency and trial and error. It took me a long time to understand the importance of an opening hook, camera angles, sound quality, and entertainment. I studied my. analytics, got feedback from other creators, and did my best to study my videos and where I could improve. My biggest advice for those just started to build their social media presence would be consistency. Keep the videos concise but clear, and be authentic. It’s obvious when the video is forced, and people respond to originality.
