We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ana Romero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our goal is to increase exposure of and appreciation for the beauty of Mexican culture. Working directly with Mexican artesian makers has increased our respect for the intricate tazas and tequileros we put our attention on. Hearing the positive comments from our customers has made bringing cultural pride into our homes and being able to display it in a unique new way has been incredibly enjoyable.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are Lita, a small business with our home being in Ogden, Utah. The Spanish term “abuelita,” which means “grandma,” is where the name Lita originated. Hand-poured soy wax is put into specially selected Mexican artisan tazas and tequileros with distinct Mexican-inspired scents that are meant to transport you back to your grandmother’s home. These decorative items can still be utilized and valued after being completely used. We try to pay attention to client feedback and work to implement it. The praise and sincere compliments we receive from working in local pop-ups make us the most proud. It’s amazing to hear that others value your vision and the labor and creativity that went into creating it. Despite the challenges, we intend to continue building and adding to our shop.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
In all honesty, it is our wonderful customers that recommend and spread word of our goods among their own friends and family. We are very grateful and thrilled that people are responsive to and adore our work as much as we do and that it speaks for itself.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The hardest aspect for me was putting my vision out there because I am a pretty timid, introverted person who worries a lot about what other people would think and like about my vision. Nevertheless, the concept was accepted and valued simply by putting it out there and with the assistance of friends and family. It’s been so much fun to engage with customers on social media; asking them silly inquiries and seeing their responses makes it seem like we are all friends. I would advise anyone thinking about starting a business or engaging with their audience online to just be themselves and not be afraid to listen to other people’s advice. Several of our clients have developed into close friendships.
