We recently connected with Ana Roman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Back in 2006, I made the bold decision to leave my full-time job and pursue entrepreneurship with my boyfriend at the time. We set out to open a tattoo and punk rock apparel shop, driven by passion but limited by experience. Unfortunately, due to licensing and zoning issues, we couldn’t sustain the business for more than a year. I found myself back home, unemployed and unsure of what was next.
Determined to think outside the box, I attended a seminar on starting a bookkeeping business. I couldn’t afford the package they offered, but it inspired me—I realized I could achieve the same goal by going back to school. Shortly after, I found work as an office assistant at a prepaid phone card company in Downtown Los Angeles while enrolling in Accounting courses.
Within six months, I began assisting the company’s bookkeeper, who was relocating to Arizona. Since remote work wasn’t as widely accepted in 2009, the owner asked if I’d be willing to take over. I accepted the challenge and was trained directly by the developer of a custom Canadian accounting software system. That hands-on experience helped build my confidence and technical skills. I went on to earn my Associate’s Degree in Accounting and Business Management in 2010.
After the company closed in 2012, I transitioned to a law office while also preparing taxes during tax season. A few years later, a referral—someone who believed in my drive—invited me to co-found a bail bonds business. Over the next five years, we built a restaurant multi-state franchise and expanded into other ventures. Both businesses have grown into million-dollar earners.
Today, my path and purpose have shifted. I’ve become an independent Insurance Broker, passionate about helping individuals and families protect their financial future. My mission is to bring peace of mind, security, and dignity to my community—while enjoying the independence, work-life balance, and financial freedom that come with it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
“Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.” – Henry Ford
As a Bookkeeper, I’ve always taken pride in doing my work with integrity and excellence—even when no one is watching. Whether I’m managing accounts or stepping in to audit and clean up someone else’s work, I do so without judgment, always focused on doing things right.
Now, as an Independent Insurance Broker, I bring that same mindset into serving and protecting my clients. I’ve seen firsthand what can happen when people don’t receive the right guidance—when decisions are made without their best interests at heart. That’s why I’m committed to using the knowledge and strategies I’ve gained through both personal and professional experience to serve my community with honesty, care, and clarity.
I know how hard it is to build a future—let alone a legacy—when you’re navigating it alone. I believe God has called me into this work to be a light in my community: to protect, uplift, and empower others with the tools to create lasting financial security and peace of mind.
What sets me apart is my faith-driven purpose, my lived experience, and my unwavering commitment to doing what’s right. I lead with compassion, serve with intention, and show up with the kind of integrity that makes a difference—especially when no one is looking.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most defining moments of resilience in my journey came when I made the difficult decision to end a contract with one of my largest clients. My husband was facing serious health challenges, and soon after, I experienced the loss of both of my dogs just a month apart. It was a time of deep emotional weight, and I knew I needed to be more present at home.
In that season, I leaned heavily on my faith. I didn’t have all the answers, but I trusted that God was guiding me toward a new purpose. I made the decision to shift careers—stepping into a field where I could still serve others while honoring the needs of my family and the calling on my heart.
It was scary at times, stepping into the unknown. But through prayer, patience, and persistence, doors began to open. I learned to walk by faith, not by sight, and today I bring that same trust, compassion, and strength into the work I do. I believe resilience is not just about pushing through—it’s about being led, staying grounded, and growing through the process.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life was when I transitioned from a long-time career in bookkeeping to becoming an independent insurance broker. On paper, it may seem like a shift in industries but for me, it was a shift in purpose.
I spent years as a bookkeeper, managing numbers, balancing ledgers, and making sure businesses stayed financially healthy. I am good at it. I loved bringing order to chaos, finding the missing penny, and giving business owners clarity over their finances. But while I enjoyed the work, I started feeling like something was missing. I was helping businesses survive but I wanted to help families thrive.
What really triggered the pivot was watching people I cared about face financial hardship because they weren’t protected. I realized that while I was helping others manage what they already had, there was a greater need to help people build and protect wealth in the first place. And sadly, many people don’t know their options especially when it comes to life insurance, living benefits, and legacy planning.
At first, I was hesitant. I had built a reputation in bookkeeping. I have experience, clients, and a steady rhythm. But I couldn’t ignore the calling I felt to step into something that could make a bigger impact not just financially, but emotionally and generationally. I wanted to serve people, not just their spreadsheets.
So, I made the leap into the insurance industry. And let me tell you being a non-captive broker opened my eyes. I wasn’t tied to one company. I could shop multiple carriers, customize plans, and truly advocate for families based on their needs, not sales quotas. I learned about powerful index strategies like IULs, living benefits that let you access your coverage while you’re still alive, and tools to help families protect what they’re working so hard to build.
My background in bookkeeping gave me a strong foundation, attention to detail, financial literacy, and trustworthiness. But this new path gave me purpose. Now I get to educate families, empower young parents, and give peace of mind to people who want to leave a legacy, not just bills.
The pivot wasn’t easy but it was necessary. It taught me that change doesn’t mean you’re starting over it means you’re growing in a new direction. And now I wake up every day excited to help people not just balance their budgets, but protect their dreams.
