We were lucky to catch up with Ana Rivera recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I work in a very chaotic field, where you most times, need to improvise as you go and an adapt and deliver on the fly. It is very much a 24 hour operation. Because it is so time consuming, i often wonder it would be like to work in a “real job” compared to this crazy schedule.

Ana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a licensed cosmetologist, i have been in this industry since i was 17 years old. I have worked on films, fashion and fashion runway. pageants, television, print, stage, theatre, weddings, celebrities, etc. There is nothing in this industry that i have not worked in.
I now own and operate my own hair and makeup company since 2003 and hire other licensed professional artists to do those types of jobs. I also still work in the field and i am very much in demand and very involved in my company and industry.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This job is not for the weak. you need to have a tough skin, be open to criticism and hustle. We work with demanding clients and talent on a regular basis. You must be able to not take things personal and know when to step back or deliver to make everyone happy.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During Covid. We had to get creative with our hair and makeup skills to stay relevant and employed and hire a social media company to help. That is how our company survived through Covid.
