Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ana Ita. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ana , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I created a hair care line that improved the health and appearance of hair. My clients loved it so much they would refer to it as “Hair Crack”! Wanting to elevate my brand, I knew I had to come up with a meaningful & appropriate name for my beauty line.
I knew I wanted a Lion to represent my products. I chose the lion because of My Chaldean Heritage and it reminded of my late father. Both the lion & my father represent strength and power.
As a Chaldean I Grew up having difficulty controlling my thick and coarse hair; my hair would look like a lions mane that was big and frizzy. After years of being in the Cosmetology profession, I perfected a formula that allowed me to control my hair which boosted my confidence whether my hair was styled or naturally curly. I finally felt like I TAMED my mane!
I wanted everyone to know exactly what this product would offer them, so I named my product line TAMED.
It’s time to strengthen hair and take control over your appearance to feel powerful & confident…GET TAMED!
Ana , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had a love for hair and makeup & keeping up with the latest trends while adding my own creative touch.
In 2015, I graduated ahead of schedule from cosmetology school, because of my dedication and love for the beauty industry. Shortly after I received my Cosmetology license, I was working as a top stylist at a Downtown Detroit – Salon.
I have switched up my hair color… maybe too often! Having naturally dark & curly hair one week and then going platinum blonde the next, my hair was begging for a recovery! I then realized I had to come up with a solution for my hair that other brands couldn’t provide. That’s when I created, my shampoo and conditioner line, TAMED.
My dad (being in the navy my whole life) was one of my biggest fans and always encouraged me to reach for the stars. We would sit together and talk about my goals and things I wanted to accomplish. When he became terminally Ill, I wanted to show him I would continue to reach for the stars.
Which inspired me to get my business license as well, it was time for me to take my business to the next level, by growing my clientele, becoming a registered small business owner, and spreading my brand throughout the country. I was blessed to be able to share that victory with my father before he passed.
What I’m proud of the most is my product line TAMED. I hand crafted a formula for a shampoo & conditioner that includes all natural oils. TAMED works wonders for all hair types & textures! TAMED shampoo includes natural ingredients that have multiple hair benefits for all hair textures. TAMED shampoo helps reconstruct the breakage in the hair, stimulate hair growth, & thickening, cleanses all debris & build up, leaving your hair squeaky clean! (You can literally hear how squeaky clean your hair is).
TAMED conditioner also includes all natural ingredients, with multiple benefits that detangle your hair, nourish the hair and scalp that helps fight off dandruff, giving your hair a shinier, healthier look! You can check out more details on my website! www.AnaStylez.com
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I manufacture my products in house. When I first started formulating my TAMED hair care line, 6 years ago, I used 2oz plastic bottles from the dollar store and filled it with my hand mixed product. As the demand for TAMED hair care grew, not having a website at first people would contact me directly to order more shampoo & conditioner with the request of larger bottle sizes.
As my company grew i labeled my product line TAMED, I branded the bottles to reflect my company’s aesthetic.
From hand mixing in dollar store bottles to sleek and high quality bottles, I went from buying 2-4 bottle sets at a time to now ordering hundreds of sets at a time.
I hired a graphic designer to create my labels and design my website.
I had to choose which 16oz bottles were best for my product and learn the codes for caps that are measured correctly for each bottle.
Wanting to fulfill orders coming in quickly, I realized I had to invest into machines that allowed me to fill up bottles with my formulated product.
I still manufacture my products in house but now I have a beautiful design, a website that offers a range of products and a system that manages orders.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The way I was able to fund my business was by working as a door dasher. I worked long hours to save my money to be able to buy a minimum amount of products at a time. I invested everything I would make into my company.
As my product line became more and more successful, this caught the attention of small private funders. Which took TAMED to the next level!
Now my company is able to produce products at high volume and using high quality items.
