We were lucky to catch up with Ana Humes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe that to be successful in this industry, it takes a combination of talent, dedication, and hard work. The best way to showcase your talent is having a strong portfolio that showcases your versatility and unique features. Being versatile and different is crucial in booking fun and new jobs as a model. Networking is crucial, so building relationships with photographers, designers, and other industry professionals can open many doors. I have built some amazing connections with so many talented photographers and models thanks to the many different groups I am apart of. I have found that having confidence and a positive attitude will help you stand out and handle the challenges and rejections that come with being in any industry that is media related.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ana Humes, and I am a fashion model based out of Greenville, SC. Throughout my life, I’ve loved the way that fashion can convey different stories and messages with simply a design. I love to model because it allows me to express myself and express the messages of designers. With just starting modeling early last year, I’ve learned that confidence and motivation are big factors in how you grow in the industry. When I first started out, I was very shy and afraid to put myself out there because of what other people might think. Since then, I have grown so much in the way I carry myself and the way that I interact with other people. Modeling allows me to make so many great connections with lots of different designers, photographers, and other models. My work includes many different types of modeling, like editorial, runway, and commercial. As a shorter model, lots of people have had doubts about my abilities in modeling. I aim to help promote inclusivity and positivity with the people I meet in my journey. I believe that modeling should not just be based on height, looks, or anything like that- it should be a safe space for anyone who enjoys expressing themselves. Being apart of the Charlotte Fashion Collective has had a major impact on me because of their inclusion for all different types of people working in modeling, photography, and fashion. I have been truly blessed in being able to meet such wonderful people in this industry who have made my experiences amazing, and I hope to create the same experience for everyone that I meet.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission in modeling is to inspire others to express their own creativity and build confidence. Whether you’re looking to model or not, everyone should feel confident in sharing their creative ideas. I believe that the best version of the world emerges when others share their creative skills with everyone. In modeling, there is a place for everyone. No matter what your style or aesthetic is, everyone has an ability to be unique.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a strong social media presence involves a mix of consistency, authenticity, and engagement. I started by defining my brand and what I wanted to convey to my audience. Posting regularly and reaching out for collaborations is crucial in keeping up your interactions. Sharing content that expresses your style and interests is also very important. Use hashtags! They help you reach a broader audience and analyze your performance to understand what works best. Remember, authenticity is key. Let your true self shine through your posts to build a connection with your audience.
