Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ana Hough. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

Determining what the perfect name is to represent your business, is hard work! If you’re anything like me, this step in the process can be very intimidating, and overwhelming sometimes. I do believe, it took me about 2 months to actually finalized my name. I had a name that I loved, but I learned a little too late, that it was actually already claimed. Totally fine, Right?! At that moments, I wasn’t so sure. But, little did I know. That actually only pushed me in the direction of the PERFECT name for my business! I started thinking. . . About, how I wouldn’t be keeping my last name. So, we shouldn’t use that. I thought about how I wanted to represent my services within the name, without being “Basic”. So, I sat, and I sat, and I sat a while longer. Then, I started asking myself questions. “If I could pick five words to describe my portraits. What would they be?” I wrote out those answers. I then asked myself, “What do you see in your work when YOU look at it?” The name instantly jumped out at me, once I wrote out my next responses. These two words were not next to each other, but I believe they belong next to each other! Each word compliments the other one, and perfectly describes the portraits I deliver!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

A little about me? Well, I have developed from a child with a camera, to a professional with 15 years of experience! Photography has always been my lifelong passion mine. Every click of the shutter, has been a step in my journey, honing skills and capturing the essence of life’s beautiful fleeting moments. I specialize in creating portraits that cherish and immortalize life’s most precious moments! From newborns, and milestones to weddings and events, there is always a reason to capture precious moments! I would be honored to do that, because some day we all realize.. Our children are growing up, as we are growing old. We have only been gifted a certain amount of time on this beautiful planet, and we never truly know when the hour glass has run out of time.. Time will always be a thief and we will all someday end up robbed. But, not of our photographs, not of our precious moments and memories captured! Photographs are one of the only, very few items, that don’t actually loose value or deteriorate with time. When precious moments are captured, memories are frozen in time. Memories that will someday fade in our minds, but those memories will never fade on the wall! Over the years, I have learned to perfect this art, grown to love this art more and more each day! With 15 years of experience, every click of my shutter, captures not just an image, but a story! It is time we capture yours!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

Personally, the most rewarding thing for me is just knowing, that I am working for my own families name. I am not getting up every day and punching the 9-5, to help someone else get rich. I do not have a boss, I am the boss! With each portrait I deliver, I am one step closer to achieving my biggest hopes and dreams, becoming exactly who I want to be! That right there, is the most rewarding aspect for me! You can be whatever you want to be in this world, but you will never get there, if you don’t start somewhere!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Now, because I had been in the industry for more than a decade prior to starting my business. I didn’t exactly have to start from the bottom. For that I am very grateful! When I started my business in 2022, I did have to do a lot of self-funding. That is basically me pulling money straight out of my paycheck and pocket to invest into my business. To cover start up costs, additional education, equipment, and software, the list goes on. Now, over the years, I have been blessed and gifted with pieces of equipment and additional items that have really served my business well and helped me continue on with my education. I am forever grateful for my biggest supporters on this journey! With a whole lot of support and a little change in your pocket, you can go a long way!
